Had an interview Tuesday for the Deloitte National Leadership Conference. Went well, was more focused on speaking about accounting (my minor) than economics (my major), but I guess it makes sense.

Anyone else do a first round phone interview for the DNLC?

To the other folks, its different for every location/recruiter. I interviewed with KPMG a month ago, and I just heard back this week from the recruiter that I was accepted.

Email the recruiter if you haven’t already to thank them, and add in a few questions about when they will get back to you and etc.

The summer leadership programs are pretty competitive, but I mean if you do well on the interview, then no worries.

Congrats on being accepted to KPMG junshik! Thanks for your answers. do you know how many people generally get accepted at each branch? i didn’t realize how competitive these programs were… =/

I don’t exactly know the numbers for my particular branch, but I’m guessing its about 4 students accepted out of 12?

Getting the interview itself is also pretty good noteworthy, but I’ve also heard of certain areas where the big 4 beg students to come to their recruiting events, lol.

How do you feel about your interviews hmmidk?

Ohh I see each branch have interviews all on one day right? I hope that there wasn’t another day of interviews.

Can I ask what area you are from? I wonder if we will be placed at the same branch. haha

I think my interview went okay… The KPMG interviewer ended talking about places she had traveled to and where I’ve traveled to so it was pretty relaxed. I hope that’s a good sign. but i can never tell!! The E&Y interview went slightly smoother but we didn’t connect on a deeper level so I am a bit concerned by that. I have no idea what to expect

I had an an interview last Wednesday at Cal for KPMG Discovery program. The interview was very casual talk just talking about my plans for the next two years.

haha i go to Cal too Dam Its Johnny. i wonder how many people they are taking from our interviews. Did you have any other interviews with the big 4?

From Cal, also interviewed with KPMG’s program and got notified today by email. Didn’t get it.

I didn’t get a casual interview like a lot of people said they had on this thread. My interview gave me quite a few, tough, behavioral questions. =/

@Demoz- Sorry to hear that, I haven’t heard anything back yet from KPMG. If you don’t mind me asking, but what did they ask you? My interview was super casual with questions just about my resume and when I would be graduating.

@Audion - When did they say?

@hmmidk- They didn’t give a specific date, but said to contact them if I didn’t hear anything within the next 2 weeks back. This was my only interview for a big4 type leadership program, and I really hope I get it as the person I interviewed with really got me excited about KPMG. I’m planning to go summer school anyways for the rest of the summer.

The interviewed asked me questions like name a time where you had to work in a group and how did you go about it, name a time where you were in a stressful situation and how did you deal with it, and I think what really got me during the interview was the question of “what is your biggest weakness?”

I tried to spin my weakness off as a positive but I guess it didn’t work and the interviewer spent a lot of time giving me advice to improve on my weakness. =/

Oh well, it alright. I’ll try again for the junior positions next year. I wish the rest of you guys luck!

Sorry to hear that, but now you know what to expect when it comes time for internship recruiting!

There are lots of articles and sites online dedicated to interviewing techniques. But in my opinion, in the end, its all about connecting with the interviewer. Have something unique on your resume, so that it stands out to the interviewer; and then they will ask you about it.
This will bring you into a more comfortable setting. Keep the flow of conversation. Ask the interviewer questions whenever you have the opportunity. (Especially when the interviewer begins to talk a little about himself). If he say’s hes a sr. manager in audit, ask him which industry, ask him if he traveled anywhere interesting, etc. etc., keep asking “gateway” questions.

The interviews that are mainly behavioral are definitely tough. While they are looking at your thought process and your composure, they also want to see your personality. Remember, its not all about your skills, GPA, or experiences. Its also about if you can hold a personable convo with the interviewer.

@demoz- I didn’t hear from KPMG yet either, but definitely best of luck to you in the future! I had a very similar interview as yours. A lot of behavioral and situational questions. kinda tricky and made me think. But the interviewer was really nice and also encouraged me and gave me advice when I talked about my weakness. You guys also had greeters who talked to you before the interview right? Wasn’t expecting that haha kind of intimidated me a bit and caught me off guard. I have no idea what to expect now, but maybe we will be working together in the future!

@Dam Its Johnny- Okay thanks! waiting sucksss. hopefully we can be in the program together! haha but i will be taking summer classes at Cal as well. so we shall see

@hmmidk- Yeah the greeters threw me off at first, since I though they were other students interviewing at first. I hope we both do get it too, and that we find out soon.

I was wondering if anyone knows what are the chances of getting an internship for next summer if one attends the market leadership programs? I know that if one attends the national conference, you’re almost guaranteed an internship, but does anyone know if that’s the same for the market leadership programs too?
