I know that the Claremonts don't have classes during the summer, but does anyone know if you could take a summer school course at a UC or State University and have it count towards your degree at Scripps?

I guess if the answer is no, then if you wanted to study a second foreign language you could use a summer school class at another college so that you would test at a higher level in a language placement exam.

Yes, you can take summer school elsewhere and have the credits transfer. Call the registrar before you make your plans so that you're sure about this, because not everything is transferable.

There are some classes offered on Claremont through the summer. I know that Pitzer has summer school (Mudd has summer math, but this is different). I'm not sure of any of the other schools. Scripps does not hold classes.

I'm not positive re: foreign language rules. You can test out of it based on SAT2 scores or test out (or into a higher level) based on a placement test. As for a college-level language course getting you out of the requirement, I'm not sure whether it would or whether you'd still need to take the test (as you say). Definitely worth a call/email to the registrar (registrar@scrippscollege.edu, I believe).
