Saw that they just updated the Facebook groups on the website! But as I’m in China, I’ll have to buy a VPN first to log in to my Facebook account

BTW, is it true that internationals cannot apply for FA after they are admitted this year? I asked the alumni from 2013 and 2012 and they both said they could but it seems they just changed the rules for this year. Not sure why

@ProximaCentauri

I’m a domestic student who applied for financial aid at the same time that I applied to the program regularly, so I really don’t know. I’d recommend just e-mailing Mr. Bowdon to ask.

“Incomplete applications cannot be reviewed.”
Is there such a line in your application status page?

yeah I have that line

I am asking because my son’s application arrived a bit too late.

I think as long as it says “Yes” for the line “ALL REQUIRED PARTS” and the date for the line “Date Completed” isn’t more than 1-2 days past deadline, your son’s application should be okay.

Just noticed new section added to my status page. It has Note from applicant to SSP (optional) section. Does everyone has this update? What is this should use for?

I didn’t use it for anything yet. When I get back my SAT scores on the 27th, I might put it on there because I am confident that my SAT scores would be a lot better than my PSAT scores…

Good idea @nobody426, I might do that too.

Oh hello everyone! I applied to SSP and I can’t wait for the decisions to come out! Yeah idk what to do about the note to SSP thing. And I don’t have the “Incomplete applications cannot be reviewed.” thing…

Yeah. For these two years that I have applied, I sent my application two days before the deadline via Priority Mail and tracked it to make sure it arrived on time. You should get a ‘Yes’ for the column ‘Arrived on time for review?’ or something like that.

You might also want to add any additional awards you’ve got between now and the results. I just got 2nd in Science Olympiad in state yesterday, so I might be entering that in soon. (Though, I don’t think that matters much. SAT may actually make a difference if you improved a lot. I have a feeling that I did about 200 points better, so I’m definitely sending it in.)

@Nobody426 what state are you from? I’m from Maryland and States is this Saturday for me. 2-year reigning champions but got 4th at Regionals because of disasters in two build events… problems should be fixed now so maybe we can win :P

@weiyourenma I’m from Indiana! We actually got last in Elastic Glider (oh man, our thing broke just before the competition) but otherwise we were managing okay. Good luck at the States! Building events have always been a really big problem in my team, and I kind of feel guilty because I always choose to do the study events. Heheheee maybe I should try out a build event next year.

2nd in Indiana = Nationals right?

It fluctuates from year to year depending on how many schools participate in State. (Ooooh I think you misunderstood though–I got 2nd in my events, but my school didn’t rank high enough to even go to the Nats. We ranked like 10th or something this year…)

Hey guys! I’ve been following this thread for a while and compared to ones for ssp in the past, it’s been a lot less active!!!

haha so to “revive” the convo, hello! I’m an applicant from Illinois, second year applying, and im really nervous for results to come out! Only 2 more weeeks??? :)

why and how will ssp help in getting into a good college

@sechukie Welcome!! This is my second year applying too, and I’m really hoping to get in! I’m curious–when & where did you all first heard about this program? I heard about it on a blog post by Anna from MITAdmissions blogs first and it really sounded amazing from what everyone had said. I’m from Indiana! :)

@windoo1 from what i’ve read, a large majority of ssp-ers go on to great universities and colleges such as MIT, harvard, yale, stanford…etc!! I dont think going to ssp itself is what GETS people in, but rather there’s a correlation. So basically, super smart/passionate people (aka tomorrow’s leaders) are generally the people that will get accepted to ssp. But If we do get in, i think the work/research experience will give us something to write about in our college essays!

Anndd @nobody426, i heard about it from my mom last year!!! Hahaha she basically emailed me everyday telling me to apply to internships, and this was one of the ones she bugged me about! I didn’t really take it seriously last year because I was a pretty clueless sophomore, but after reading more about ssp, I decided i really wanted to go this year!!
