Thanks sechukie …cannot wait for the decision.rejected at rsi

I am applying to SSP first time as a junior. @sechukie I was also a very very clueless sophomore, lol. I didn’t know about any of the free and prestigious summer programs that universities like MIT and Stanford offer until this January, when I first started doing research on summer programs. I think I found out about SSP and many other programs through the MIT post and College Confidential.
Even though I am not going into Astrophysics field in college, I really want to get into this program. From what I’ve read on the website, this program will be extremely difficult and challenging. I will most likely die of fatigue and brain over-usage by the end of this program, but I embrace the challenge. Haha.
I have doubts about getting in this program since essays are not my forte. I re-used lots of my old essays for this application…my essays just…sucked haha. I am in AP Calculus BC and AP Physics Mechanics, though, so hopefully that will help my application a little.

i applied last year as a sophomore and thought i had good chance of getting in but got rejected so zero confidence this year

@windoo1, same!! I was sooo confident last year…but after rereading my app when applying this year, i realized how bad my essays actually were!! Haha so this year, im completely unsure about the outcome. On one hand, my essays and recs are better and im a junior…but then on the other hand, i went over the words limits by a lot this year! Gaah these weeks are soo nervewrecking :p

@fairyfantasy lol i was clueless until i realized that summer stuff was actually important!! I just started going on college confidential this year, and i swear i’m becoming addicted. Haha and the more i read about ssp, the more i wanna go! Somehow, the more i read about losing sleep and doing work, the more appealing ssp becomes!! Like one thread before talked about how someone took a short nap during a calc lecture …started when they were learning derivatives, woke up at taylor series. Idk why, but it sounds so exciting!!! Anyone else?

@sechukie what other kinda stuff have you heard about SSP? And don’t worry, I went over the word limits by about 10% on most parts.

I applied because it sounds so difficult and exciting and I think I thrive under pressure. All I’ve heard about it is that the students lose a lot of sleep.

hahaha your name @screwCC

Most of the threads are just people anxiously waiting for their results! So i dont actually know thaaat much about the ssp activies specifically, but i do remember some stuff from when someone posted their schedule. Basically, they said that you start waking up from 6 to 7, and i think breakfast ends at 8:30ish. ANd there there was a morning lecture, followed by lunch and some afternoon lectures, then dinner. And then problem set time, and apparently theres like 3 time slots for asteroid observation??? Hahaha the details are all a blur in my head! But somewhere in that general schedule, there was a short time slot to shower, 2 for quick naps, and 1 for playing soccer around dinner time!

Don’t fret to much about the word limit guys, I passed by a lot (and I mean it) but still got in (international). Just don’t have any repetitions and make sure every word counts I guess.
And yeah SSP really does sound like a awesome program! Especially for an Astronomy nerd like me!

Does anyone know the exact date the results were released last year?

i got my email april 10th at 2 pm!

I looked at the thread from 2013 and they got their decisions April 10.

Did anyone update their application on the ssp website with new SAT scores?

I suddenly got really nervous about SSP today, thinking about a ‘what-if’ rejection. I reread the SSP letter they sent me last year, and then sunk in a state of despair… I’ve been really insecure lately, but I guess things would turn out how they should be! Anyhow, can’t wait for the decisions!

I think about it like every day haha I’m so nervous for decisions to come out! I just want to know already!

rsi-reject

ssp-?

We’ll get through this guys. What are your backup plans?

This is my backup for MITES and SAMS is my backup for SSP. If I don’t get into any of the three then I’m going to hike Mt.Hood , hike Mt. Nebo and shadow a doctor, so either way I’ll have a fun summer. What about you?

@Emywemy610 for me it’s the opposite! SSP is my first choice, and MITES was just something I applied to …just for the sake of applying. that’s also because i don’t think I’m a minority though, so my chancesfor getting in were already super low!

If I don’t get into SSP, then I’m probably just going to do research at a local university!

~9 more days guys !! :S

Should I write an additional note if I advanced to regional with literary criticisms, which doesn’t relate to science/math at all?

@fairyfantasy I would definitely put it into my application, because it actually shows your critical thinking abilities are well-developed and critical thinking is extremely important in all sciences.

@sechukie I’m a minority in the science field so MITES is my number one choice, I probably won’t get it, but I’m hopeful!
