Hi my name is Amanda and I just found this thread. I applied to SSP as well and im super nervous since most of you guys sound really great on your applications. I think my application was okay. My recommendation letters are AMAZING though! So im hoping that the recommendation letters would give me a good chance on getting in. I really would love to go to to this program!

@entropy01 Thanks! I sent in the updated notes. Hopefully they will see them before making final decisions, etc.

When you update your app, do you think they receive a notification?
I want to add in another detail but I’m afraid they’ve already finished making a decision on my file…and that they won’t even see the update!

sechukie just send it .maybe they wont see it but what if they do…

Just wondering, what would be considered an amazing recommendation letter? Do the teachers fill the letter with praises of the student? Or does it have to be something extremely 3-D/personal or creative?

I think the more personal the better. It really shows that the teacher knows the student and actually writes about what matters. (In my point of view, rec letters are to showcase your personality, not grades. Grades can be shown elsewhere in the app.)

that’s true, i’ll go add it in now! Thanks:) and only one more week guyyyss!!

also, how do you get your teachers to let you read recs?! Do you ask them? i’m so curious about what my teachers have been saying about me!

here <a href=“How to write good letters of recommendation | MIT Admissions”>http://mitadmissions.org/apply/prepare/writingrecs

You generally don’t ask to read the recs. If they offer to let you see them, fine. Otherwise, just hope for the best.

@sechukie My teachers asked me if I wanted to read them and I said yes so I was able to see mine. My math teacher gave me an amazing rec letter, and my science teacher gave me an alright one. My math teacher knows me better so that’s why. I didn’t get to see my guidance counselor’s rec letter, but she knows me pretty well so I’m hoping it’s good.

oh okay that makes sense! I read my bio teacher’s for a different program and it sounded pretty good…but I haven’t read any others so I have nothing to compare it to! Haha. Btw, sorry for all the questions! But did you guys do the supplemental resume essay thing?

Yeah, I just included my resume (ECA and research/work experiences).

What resume essay?

Not a resume essay in particular, just any sort of supplemental information that might help the admissions board get to know you. They suggest submitting a resume, but I’m sure they would accept an essay on the subject of your choice as well.

My math, science and english teacher didnt have envelopes so they said to do it for them and they let me read it and they were really great but my science was okay since hes fresh out of college and is his first year teaching.

Aww shoot, I didn’t include anything for supplemental info! there goes my app… haha but good luck everyone

Oh… Well I had no idea we could do that… So much for getting in.

sincerely i probably will get will be directly rejected by the SSP…

What day are the results coming out? They said mid-April, right?

I’m actually curious to know everyone’s stats.
