Summer Science Program (SSP)

No offense, but I think the chances are slight. You should call and ask if you are at the top of the waitlist or not though!

I got my official e-mail today.
And it's for Ojai and not NM as I had thought. I'm so pumped!

Haha don't worry Ojai is 10x better. :P

I don't really know about waitlist, but I think a couple people on CC last year got in off of the waitlist...

For you all who got in, did you apply for the Feb deadline??

Ojai!! I couldn't believe it when I saw the email ^^

ace3nd: I applied for the earlier deadline (Feb 28? 29?).

^ awesome!

I applied for the earlier one too. I think it was February 12, but I could be wrong.

Maybe we should compile a list of the acceptees/waitlisted...

I've made a facebook group for Ojai
Login | Facebook

Do you think reccs had to play a big role??
Or was it essay/gpa/sat scores??

In at Socorro. Score!

hey!
i applied to SSP 2 and i'm waiting for an answer...
when did u guys apply and have already gotten the decisions?

it definitely wasn't stats. at least not for sophomores. i didn't get in even though i had equal or better stats that a lot of juniors who got in (based on posts by people who have gone there in the past and got in this year). so im guessing that it was probably recs and essays. i think i had pretty good recs too, so maybe my essays weren't what they were looking for. oh well =[

Dang, Cranland, you got rejected?! Thats nuts, I saw some of your stats and I'm really shocked. I applied also (soph) but haven't gotten a decision back, but its looking really, really bleak now... wanna share your essays, or what they were about?

Don't be discouraged about not getting in as a sophomore! The program really makes a point of giving a priority to juniors (and from the looks of the website, more so this year than before), so admission is much more selective for sophomores. Everyone starts out on pretty much the same page, though, so the degree to which stats reflect how much you'll benefit from the program is pretty limited. You'll have just as good a time if you apply again as a junior next year! Actually, probably better, because then you're not stuck trying to figure out what to do the next summer, since the program you've been waiting to apply to since elementary school won't take you again. :P

er, i submitted mine about 2 days after the first deadline. wow u all got responses already? thru email? where's mine!!

i bet i got rejected cuz i didn't proofread my essays -_-

Since you submitted after the deadline, you'll probably have to wait for the second waive of decisions.

hmm so that's like end of march? darn should've sent it like, 2 days earlier =P

@dtl42: i sent you a message about my essays.

@thestralnerd: yeah, i can tell they favor juniors. I have to say though, I was still pretty disappointed. I don't know if it would have made a difference, but maybe I should have waited until later (like now) to apply because then they would have had physics olympiad to take into account (im a semifinalist). but unfortunately the day I got rejected was the day I found out I was a semifinalist. and yeah I might not struggle on what to do next summer, but what about this summer?

^oh wow, semifinalist as a sophmore, thats pretty impressive. yeah you probably would've gotten in with that! but why don't you apply to CMU's summer for diversity program...it's also another way to occupy your summer, and there's a SAMS (summer academy for math and science). its free, too, and admissions are rolling. It might be a little too easy for you tho..

yeah i looked into that, but like you said, its pretty easy. i think i might get bored..

I read somewhere that they extended the deadline last year or something? What are the chances of that happening this year?

congrats to all those who got in, and all the best to those who got waitlisted.

for all ojai people, ojai >>>>> socorro :D

btw @ DuckTape14, i hope you live up to your name and carry on the great work of the Duck Cult at ssp 2008. if you don't know what the Duck Cult is, well - don't get me started :D

i bet classof09 has much - stronger - feelings about the Cult than even i myself do.
