they don't do the dinner/dance anymore...
they changed it up a bit last year. :)

Question: Is there any method at which you are assigned a roomate for the week? Or is it rather arbitrary?

I believe it was alphabetical, as my last name starts with Y and my roommates last names began with W and W

lol, my name starts with an A and my roommate started with an S

mostly, they were done by elements I think. a few of the "extras" stayed with others.

Dance? Isn't the girl to guy ratio horrendous though?

That made it all the more fun. ;)

(or interesting, to say the least...)

well, judging by the number of actual cadets, the odds are better at the academy than at Michigan Tech (I know a few guys who are going there). Michigan tech has about 17% of students being female compared to the Academy having 21%. It's not too much better, but at least there are more options!

And we do have USMA and USNA beat, for sure. :)

My personal opinion of what i've seen, Air Force girls look the best out of any branch.

Watch out Marvin... Kissin up to the girls on this forum won't be of much help your 4 dig year ;)

who says? ;) jk

I know this is going to be a stupid question, but will we have any time to shop to buy some nice Air Force apparel and gear? I would love to get a t-shirt or something, and at commissary price!

I do believe that they give us quite a bit of AF gear... 2012?

My son came home last summer with a USAFA windbreaker, shirts, shorts, a backpack, a beach towel, calculator, pens/pencils, and a bunch of other stuff as well.

Never to be worn again. ;)

they do give ya a ton of stuff, and if you so desire, there will be opportunities for you to purchase sweatshirts, t-shirts, and the like.

they weren't inexpensive though, from what other kids said.

They give you a TON of stuff, most of mine didn't actually fit me because they ran out of smalls, but like missmuff said the stuff that you would buy is not cheap, the only thing you save on by buying it there is shipping

Are there any voluntary or non-mandatory activities/duties/etc. that would be worth participating in? I have a friend that went to the Naval seminar and she recommended a few things that were voluntary but a lot of fun.

I don't remember any voluntary things to do. Except maybe "candiDATES" but that's all I can think of.

What is candiDATES?

well, I probably spelt it wrong, but it is where you take a guy/girl to 'dinner' at mitch's. usually the guy has to make a flower out of a napkin, sing them a song, ect. just something funny like that. then if the girl's/guy's cadre lets them, they will join your table for the meal. That's about it i think
