Summer Seminar 2008

Do they still do the optional hikes? I did the Stanley Canyon hike at my SS. It was definitely worth it.

Oh don't go on the "hiking trip" which is offered early on the first day, unless you are in good shape and from somewhere higher then sea level...

It is more of a climb then a hike!

I went expecting a nice hike through the forest, and while it was really beautiful - it killed me (i wasn't in the best of shape). I was sore for the next couple days!

If they still offer both Stanley Canyon and Eagles Peak hikes, realize that Eagles peak is a fairly steep mountain trail. The Stanley Canyon hike is still a decently tough hike (even though it is a short distance).

If you do either, I highly recommend some hiking boots. I wore tennis shoes, and the tread pattern got almost no traction on the gravel/dirt trail...made comming down quite, erm--interesting.

Just how difficult is the physical stuff at SS? I'm taking all college courses (long story), and haven't had time to do as much training as I woud've liked. Still not in horrible shape, but not great.

SS is not too difficult. Doolie for a day can be challenging, though.

raimus, I think they only had the Eagle's Peak hike.

dmac09, i'm from sea level, and the only real physical training i'd done before was soccer (a winter sport for us). i was a little burnt out after "doolie for a day," but it was fun, team-building stuff and my whole element was cheering each other on.

I didn't really have a problem, I too and from sea level and my only physical preparation was playing tennis. I was tired after doolie for a day, but I made it through everything fine. The morning PT is not bad either, although the running was a little tough for me

Ok, that makes me feel a lot better going into SS. I was worried that I'm in waaay over my head at this point, since I haven't had much to compare to physically except past times/scores. Thanks!

No, you'll be fine for SS. Just make sure that you start working out more to prepare for the CFA if USAFA is where you decide you want to go.
