Just FYI that this is something Montclair did this year that was a great benefit to the students: organized a unified-type audition day with a dozen or so summer-stock theaters on a weekend (on a day cleared of school productions or rehearsals) on campus. Cost to participate was $20. While some of these organizations go to college campuses individually, being able to audition for several of them in one fell swoop was a great opportunity, especially for kids who for whatever reason couldn’t attend Strawhats or other regional auditions. Even though Montclair is close to NYC, it is often difficult for the kids to get to auditions there because MANY auditions are held on weekdays when they are in class (and Montclair does care that you go to class), or they are in shows or have rehearsals that take precedent. Hopefully this will be an annual event.
We attended Arts Day last week, and we heard that the event will be repeated AND enlarged in 2016! They are hoping for 20 or so theatre companies (including 2 cruise lines). Really cool. They really seem to be on the ball!
