SUNY Binghamton Class of 2022

Deferred from Watson tonight, best of luck to everyone still waiting!

Thanks @AntHp @1S1Dforcollege @comom25! We’re all very happy here with the good news. It’s only the second school we heard from and this one means a lot considering that we’re in-state and we know for sure we can afford the sticker price.

@stechin, Bing is definitely very high on his list. Also high on my list due to being relatively affordable. Other schools DS likes and applied to we’d probably only consider with sufficient merit aid so they’re kind of an unknown.

@stechin I agree with what you say. Binghamton offers a much more traditional college experience than Baruch which is a commuter school and more like going to an office each day without any campus or collegiality amongst students, many of whom are first generation and have family obligations that limits their availability to participate in the school community. You only gets to experience college once. And Bing SOM arranges NYC trips and “Binghamton in the City” week in January of each year with visits to employer sites and networking events. This is in addition to many recruiters visiting campus and SOM maintaining a strong Career Planning center. So I don’t believe you will be at any disadvantage in terms of being able to secure summer internships and jobs.

@AntHp Thank you for your kind words
@WilliamNYC Congratulations to your son! Appreciate your advice but don’t really understand it. If he has no interest in Harpur, why should he accept? How can accepting Harpur lead Binghamton to suddenly accept him to SOM?

i got deffered :frowning:

Hello everyone. I was accepted into Harpur back in December with a 1430 SAT and 101.65 Weighted GPA (in-state student). I just have a general question about Binghamton.

When I received my acceptance letter in the mail, I was not notified of a scholars program or any merit scholarships. Is there a chance that in the upcoming months, I will receive another letter from Binghamton about this? Thank you.

@Momoftgrad22 30 act and a 96 unweighted average. applied in October

What I meant @margarett is that other people who were asked to consider switching schools got accepted in the school they switched to the very next day. So would be Harpur in his case. So it seems to be an acceptance notice but for another school. I totally understand the disappointment but maybe you’d like let think it over… Hope that makes sense.

@randall4200 - DD was accepted mid- November, her scholarship info came in her acceptance letter, but she did not hear about scholars program until this past Saturday.

@WilliamNYC Thank you, but it makes no sense for him; he wants to major in business.

@1S1Dforcollege is she an out-of-state student by any chance? I’ve skimmed through this post and have noticed that the out-of-state students are the ones receiving the scholarships, compared to the in-state students who are not receving anything. Also, do you think that the scholars program invitations are on a rolling basis?

I see @margarett. As others have pointed out in that case I would ask your school’s counselor to get in touch with your regional representative. At the very least to explain that your son rather sticks with the college of his choice and hopes for an acceptance during the RD round! Sorry to hear about the disappointment but I’m sure all will be well in the end… Keep us posted please. Take care.

Yes- we are OOS, the scholarship makes Bing cheaper than in-state options. I do think scholars is on a rolling basis- the first notifications were mentioned here a few weeks ago and DD just get hers Saturday.

@love3kids thank you. Been waiting since nov. hoping to get an answer soon Thank you. Daughters top school. Husband went there. We al love it. Best of luck!!
