Im really torn what to do I was waitlisted for the fall but accepted into spring. I dont really want to stay home for a semester then transfer in the spring but i also know that bing is one of the best schools that i applied to. Does anyone know how it is to transfer in the spring im just nervous everyone already has their friend groups and stuff by then that it will be hard to get involved halfway through the year and my other option that i liked was URI but i know its not as strong as a school as bing so idk im just torn. Also does anyone know previous years stats on acceptance after being waitlisted
@Alexandra46 difficult decisions indeed… Did you consider enrolling in your community college and taking courses so you have credits to start at Bing? That way you are busy during fall and start Bing with credits. Bing is a nice school so it might be worthwhile to go for it.
Should i go to stonybrook or binghamton for science? Can i go towards medical field in harpur college?
i’d say stony brook as stony brooke has a better STEM program in general.
Should I go to bing or UDel honors for neuroscience? Also, I just applied to the FRI program yesterday and idk if it’s too late
DD was invited to FRI- one of the research streams is devoted to Neuroscience. That is her first choice, she hopes she gets assigned to that one.
@gialimgialim both SB and Bing are good schools. The campus feel is different though. Bing is more the typical college experience. SB is more a commuting campus. I know my kids both would prefer the typical campus feel Bing offers.
Alexandra46, I hope I am not too late with my response. My son was accepted for Spring 2018 and waitlisted for Fall 2017. This was at the end of March last year. Since he only wanted Bing, we decided that should he not get in for the Fall off the waitlist, he will enroll in community college close to home which had an application deadline in August. I figured, by that time, we would know whether he is off the WL. Keep in mind that those who decide to enroll must send their deposit by May 1st and I had a feeling that many of these accepted students will go elsewhere and spots will free up. Sure enough, this is exactly what happened and on May 9th, he received a phone call followed by a status update online and then a letter that he will be starting in the fall! So this is our personal experience and also, we know another family, their kid is a year ahead of mine, same exact story. I had even spoken to Randall Edouard who back then was Provost of Admissions and has since moved on to another opportunity at Bing and he said exactly the same thing-many kids apply to Bing as safety school, both financials and academic when their stats are good enough for more prestigious institutions, and then when they receive decisions on admission and aid, they choose to forego Bing.
I hope your daughter gets into the neuroscience stream. It is an absolutely wonderful program.
@babysladkaya Thank you so much for all your help and info, that makes me feel much better. Also, you are definitely not too late I put my deposit down for the spring semester today:) and if need be, I will attend my community college for the fall semester and then start in the spring at bing which I realized that one semester home in the scheme of things is no big deal and I have always had my heart set on Bing so it is definitely worth it! Especially for my major it is my best option. I am hoping I’m one of the ones to get off the wait-list but I don’t want to get my hopes up… Congratulations to your son and Thank you again!!
Can I ask how much later after the home call you received an update to email and or a letter. We received the call Friday (yea) and are still waiting for a more concrete piece of evidence!
@shakespeare23 Are you saying that you received a call this past Friday informing you that your child already got off the waitlist? And if so, what school and what did they say? Also, if you don’t mind where about do you live? BTW, if this is true, how exciting!!!
We also put in a deposit for the Spring semester when my son was waitlisted. I can’t remember the exact timeline between getting the phone call on May 9th and the online communication/paper letter, but I don’t think it was more than a week. Give it till the end of the week if you received a phone call. Good luck to everyone!
Got accepted to Harpur. I am an international student. I just received the news via my portal.
But they dont tell me anything about my scholarship. Does anyone know when binghamton will release my scholarship letter?
Yes Call was Friday and got email today! Watson school.
@shakespeare23 Congrat!!
Are you saying you’ve heard back about Fall waitlist after being accepted for Spring '19??? I thought they dont start notifying until after May 1st…
They notified my son (last year) on March 24th (he applied regular decision, not early action) that he is in for Spring 2018 and WL for Fall 2017. Then on May 9th, they called to say he is in for the Fall 2017.
This might be a dumb question but do they call the parent or the student and what if you miss the call lol
we attended admitted students day on 4/22 and someone in our session asked that very same question. the answer: if you miss the call or fail to respond to the email, you’re out of luck! BU had nearly 39K applications this year; a new record. only 2800 openings. good luck
