SUNY Geneseo Freshman Dorming questions

Hello everyone so I am a senior in high school and will be attending SUNY Geneseo in the fall. I have to fill out my dorming application and so far I am 100% on living in a first year experience freshman dorm I am just torn between a corridor or a suite style dorm. My main concern is having an easy time meeting people and making friends as well as having access to some parties while also being comfortable and having some provacy. I have heard good and bad things about both and I am pretty much deciding between a suite such as Suffolk or a corridor such as Onondaga. I was also wondering if the bathrooms in Onondaga look like normal public bathrooms with multiple stalls or if they have private bathrooms that can be locked. I also read online that Suffolk hall is a corridor style hall with suite style dorm rooms, does this mean that when living here it is just as easy to make friends as in a corridor? Thank you. Any input on this especially on the Suffolk and Onondaga dorms would be appreciated.

Hello there, I’m going into my Junior year at Geneseo so let me know if you have any questions! My freshman year I lived in a corridor style room in Wayne hall and loved it. Honestly it won’t be hard to make friends in either suite or corridor style, especially in the freshman dorms. Onondaga and all the corridor dorms have public bathrooms with stalls, though they do have a couple “guest” bathrooms near the entrances that are singles and lock (these won’t have showers though). Suffolk has suite styles in a “corridor” so down a hallway there’ll be doors on either side each going into a suite as opposed to suites being gathered around a central lounge area in quads. Every year will be different, but I’ve found the smaller the dorm the tighter the community (in freshman dorms, at least) so Daga may not necessarily be the best if that’s what you are looking for, however in either dorm you should still be able to make friends from the rooms around you.

Ok thank you very much for the response, on the application I couldn’t really request specific forms but really only the style so for 1st choice I chose 1st year experience suites (Suffolk and Nassau) and for 2nd choice I chose 1st year experience corridors, does this sound like a good choice to you? Also I don’t know if you would be able to answer this question but obviously I’m not going to college for this reason but while I’m there I would like to have a good social life and go to parties and stuff like that but I don’t competively play any sports and am not looking to join a frat so can you recommend any clubs or organizations that I can join that will invite me to these sort of things? Thank you again.

Those sound good, I personally prefer corridor to suite because there are fewer roommates to deal with, but that’s just my personal choice. Freshman dorms aren’t the best on campus and they’re all fairly similar to each other, so other than corridor vs suite style there isn’t that much of a difference.

As for parties, yeah frats and all the sports teams are best known for those, but honestly every organization throws them every once in a while, so it really depends on what your interests are.

Ok sounds good thank you for all the help.

No problem! Let me know if you have any other questions

Will do thank you!
