SUNY Purchase

The congratulatory phone call to accepted students also serves to guage the student’s interest and intention to attend the program. Accepted students have up until May 1st to commit and some will decide on the spot or some will decide the last week of April. Some will even visit their final choices before they decide. That may leave a number of spots as “pending.” This is where the waitlist also referred to as “Alternate” comes into play. Offers of admission from the waitlist can feasibly run throughout the Spring and into the summer depending on individual circumstances.

yes the waiting game is getting a little old… and I really would like to get in ha… but honestly who knows… its a numbers game. Yes in my group they told us we would know the first week of March bc it was the “golden week” and they said rejections come first. honestly who knows how they do it… but i hope everyone here gets in!

this is frustrating. is it safe to assume that if you haven’t gotten a call you are waitlisted? because rejections have already been sent out?

Haha, I hope so. I’d consider myself waitlisted but I am paranoid that once I do I’ll get a rejection letter.

I just wish it was May already.

Has anyone received word from studio composition program?

Hi, an update. I checked my MyPurchase account for the first time in a few weeks today and found this:

“A decision has been made on your file. You will receive notification from the Office of Admissions within the next 5 - 7 business days.”

Guess that’s that.

Sorry to double post, but it wouldn’t let me edit my first one. I decided to do some investigation and call the admissions office. The man who answered the phone told me that decisions both positive and negative are still going out, so I shouldn’t assume anything quite yet. Thought you guys might want to know!

bogface- when did you audition?
i just logged into my account and it didnt say anything like that… but i auditioned on 2/20 so who knows?
andd positive and negative… ok well that means we can all still get rejected which kinda sucks… but thats life ha

I auditioned the Saturday before you did, 2/13. I would take it as good news that you haven’t gotten any notifications or anything yet, as that would imply that you’re still in the running. Craaap.

On a mildly unrelated note, I wonder what the ratio of auditioning girls:boys is? If there’s a significant imbalance, I would imagine the lesser gender would hear first because there would be less applications to process. Just speculation, though.

How behind do you think they could be? Yes… I think it could be good but idk
did you get a callback?
I didn’t… however they kept saying it didn’t matter if you got one? And I just want to know already ha i don’t know why they said first week of march… if we still don’t hear anything.

I have not heard anything as well. I auditioned on 2/13 and I did get a callback.

And where do you look on you MyPurchase account to see your application status? For me the homepage just talked about my audition date and I didn’t see anything to click on. I am slowly going insane.

nmicale09 - does your mypurchase account still say the following???

We are in receipt of all of your required application materials. All Performing Arts Programs (Acting, Dance, Music, Theatre Arts & Film) require an audition or other talent review. Be sure to complete the audition or talent review for your program so that a decision can be rendered on your file.* Please e-mail the Office of Admissions at Purchase if you have any questions.

And then it gives the audition time and date, etc.

My daughter’s audition was Feb 12th.

Hippietheatermom: I auditioned on the 13th and my account said that until today. I’m sure your daughters will be changed soon.

I guess they really are behind.

hippietheatremom- I just checked my My Purchase account and it says the EXACT SAME THING. its driving me crazy. I don’t know why they are having so much trouble getting out rejections or acceptances or whatever it is… however… I think that its weird that the people who auditioned earlier on the 13th haven’t heard anything… as in maybe a good weird.
These people have been doing these auditions for YEARS AND YEARS. they know who they don’t want right off the batt… if they didn’t want you… im pretty sure you would know by now… they would just send it off. Now what could be happenning… is they can’t decide who to waitlist… and they sorta know who to accept.
its a confusing process and i hate being patient =)

I applied for the Dramatic Writing program, and my account says they haven’t received anything besides my ACT scores which I sent last year. I kind of freaked out because I mailed my transcripts, portfolio, etc in February, so I called them to see what’s going on. They said they’re still processing a TON of paperwork and they haven’t made any decisions for the DW program yet.

Aaand you’re all acting majors, so this probably wasn’t very helpful, haha…

I applied for the Vocal/Opera (music) program. I got a call Sunday night (3/7) saying I had been accepted to the conservatory, but this did not mean I was accepted to the university. He told me that I should be getting a letter of decision from the university within the next ‘week or so’ and to let them know if I am attending as soon as possible.

Hasn’t quite yet been a week… but now I am paranoid that I will not get into the university! My GPA is about 3.4 and my SAT math was 490, but my reading was 650… I take a mix of challenging courses and fun courses, and my grades are all over the place…

If I do get rejected, but the music conservatory really wants me, can I get them to fight for me if I promise to bring up my GPA by June, haha?

I hope you guys all hear soon. Sounds like letters should be coming out within a week or two.

At my audition, the admissions officer said that straight 500s and around a 3.2 would probably get us in. I think you probably have nothing to worry about, but I don’t want to give you false hope. Good luck! That’s fantastic!

bogface- I reallyyy want to hear soon. I just want to know where I’m going to school!
It’s nice to know others are in the same place. I am just annoyed they give us a date when we will know and then go like ten days over it!

nmicale - Yeah, I hear ya. Despite my love of the program, I’ve been pretty disappointed with the way Purchase has handled notifications. It would have been courteous to at least notify us that they were running behind.

at my audition… the kids were rude… the auditions were running three hours behind and the person organizing it seemed frantic and crazed. the whole entire thing was a mess. I’m not surprised they did this but I think that if i don’t get in at this point… whatever. No school is THAT good where they can be like this ha
