SUNY Purchase

It’s interesting that the people were rude to you. Everyone was incredibly hospitable when I auditioned – multiple students waited around with us for HOURS while the auditors played catch-up (I believe a few of them were sick, or something, so they were behind) and my fellow auditioners were all very nice. The auditors were even very warm although I was one of the last people of the day. That said, the program’s organization absolutely blew. So I can sort of see what you mean.

Yeah, we were waiting until 5 for the call back list to go up, but that was my only problem. I thought everyone was really friendly it was just a great atmosphere in general. I really am shocked that someone had a bad experience there.

Neospeed - We auditioned during the same session! Do you remember which group you were in?

I was in the afternoon session in the first group called. I was with the group that was on the right side of the building. I was actually the second person to go also.

I just felt as if the disorganization made things kind of crazy. A few kids were nice, but many of them kept saying things like "ya they barely call back anyone blah blah ". it just felt really weird… and I think its an amazing program… butt the fact that they were so off that day just turned me off a little bit

Wow, we were in the same group. I was the overly talkative guy who hung out in the corner of our little waiting area with a few girls. Small world! I went third-to-last.

Haha awesome! Thats crazy!

How did you do on your audition?

I felt okay about my audition, but not especially great or anything. That was pretty par for the course, though. I think I built up so much anticipation that the actual audition felt anti-climactic no matter what. The interview was good, but not very personal or introspective. They asked about my training, and what I thought worked and what didn’t. It was a pretty average audition for me, overall, so I’m not expecting much in the way of results.

Okay, I officially got my acceptance today in the mail, as well as in my Purchase account. But I am a vocal performance major, so not sure how much this helps…

As far as being disorganized or rude… I couldn’t say more of the opposite! I found Purchase to be by far the nicest, organized of all my auditions-- and I auditioned at a lot of places.

sopranorose- congratulations!
well at my audition THE LAST ONE in the entire thing… things were crazy. I had no time to warm up or anything. I just got a weird vibe. Im sure the music department was different… and keep in mind… i had a very different audition as it was the last one and they were already trying to make decisions I think… but who knows.

my account also still just says my audition location and time. i can’t tell if this is good or bad…i know we aren’t supposed to try and figure it out, but it is so hard to just forget about it!

It’s so funny to me how often we all check this blog! But I completely am the same way because I am dying to know. I called Admissions today, and they told me that they were way behind, and to “hang tight” and those final decisions for those of us still waiting should be out next week. Not much of a help, or the news we really wanted to hear!

i admit ive checked this blog soo much! but its just bc i really need to talk to someone about how crazy I feel anddd not to mention the fact that no one at school applied here,
and my mypurchase account still says the same thing.
hmm soo hang tight… well are they still rejecting people? bc isn’t that pretty easy to do early on? or is that just me insanely hoping for a waitlist ha

yea this whole thing is taking over my life. Here is one theory I have, but you might not like it: Another person mentioned how they got a letter saying they were accepted into the Dramatic Studies major even though they auditioned for BFA acting. So i think they are taking all the kids who didnt get accepted in the bfa program and instead of just sending them rejections are seeing if they would be accepted academically into the dramatic studies major so that way they can then send a letter saying your accepted, just not into the major you wanted. It’s just a theory, of course I want us all to be on the waitlist, but there just seems to be a lot of us clueless folks for us all to be on the waitlist. Sorry if thats depressing, I’m just trying to be logical.

Wait… Have they sent out acceptances to BFA acting yet or not?

yes, they have

From what I understand, they make phone calls for BFA Acting, not letters. Then there is an acceptance package to follow.

yes and I’m positive (at least some) calls went out March 4th. I would imagine they would do them all at the same time but who knows (well…they do).

hey conny- so yes i agree… their are too many of us saying we haven’t heard anything. i think they probably will reject more people.
I think that… the Dramatic Studies would be interesting. Idk why their accepting people into that, do you? I mean if we auditioned for BFA Acting… why would they send us acceptances to something else?
Also… I don’t think their done deciding. If they were done accepting people the whole process would be alot easier to reject most of us right?
I dont know. IM very confused…
but also I don’t know why my mypurchase account doesnt even seem to acknolwedge that i even got accepted.

This is just my obsessive optimism, but I know that calls have happened on other days as well, so I’ve begun to assume that calls are going at as decisions are finalized (i.e. NOT en masse). That said, MyPurchase has told me that a decision has been made and nobody’s given me a call, so bad news bears in that department. Maybe I’m waitlisted?
