Per Rice instructions:

"Please note that supplemental materials must be submitted electronically."

My son wants to submit a copy of 1-2 certificates as part of his R. ED application. As I understand it, uploads to the Common App (per CA staff) are not possible. Does this mean then that PDF copies of certificates should be sent via email to R. admissions as attachments? Can I send PDF of certificates (postal mail) by means of USB drive, along with PDF of signature page and "art" object requested as part of the application? I want to avoid sending paper copies and request that R. staff "scan" into application. Opinions please. Thanks.

Most schools do not want copies of certificates. They do not look at them. Most results can be verified online or through recommendations.

I would suggest that you not send them.

I do not know how you can send them however if you decide to.

Don’t send paper or a USB drive. The “art” object, AKA an image that appeals to you, should be re-sized to fit the box and data limits. So if you have something that is 8X11, scan it and re-size it so that it fits the box.

I think that sending anything separately via the post office for the school to upload is not a good idea.

Please see below link from Rice Supplement page. The option to “mail in” hard copy of signature page is not valid? Not recommended?

You said that you were going to send a USB drive, and that you were trying to avoid sending paper. A USB drive is not a good idea. The signature and scannable image page that you linked to is fine, provided it is used according to Rice’s instructions.

Its only my opinion, but I think there is less risk of the pieces of an application getting lost if everything comes to the school electronically.
