If I am accepted into UCLA, I am sure that I will not be admitted into the engineering program though Computer Science is what I would like to major in. Would it be a good idea for me to apply as an economics major (because that is my second choice) and then switch to computer science once I am accepted? Or is switching majors not allowed at UCLA because I saw on a different thread that the majors are impacted? If there is anything I need to know or seem uninformed on let me know because I can tell as Im typing this that Im just generally ignorant on this issue.

The info you want is at [Change of Major - UCLA Engineering](http://www.seasoasa.ucla.edu/undergraduates/change-of-majord)

What you are asking is a question with no perfect answer. On the one hand, should you be accepted into CS then you can graduate even if you get a C in every class (although your job prospects won’t be great). But to switch into CS will require a 3.5GPA. So maybe you could get that CS degree by applying for it now but would not be able to do so if you wait until you’re a UCLA student.

On the other hand, UCLA does not consider alternate majors, so if you apply for CS and don’t get in then you won’t be going to UCLA, even if you’d be willing to do it if you could study Econ.

So the choice (and consequences) are yours to ponder…

Thanks for the link. Im pretty sure I will be able to maintain over a 3.5 GPA. so you suggest that under the circumstance that I cannot be accepted into CompSci (trust me there is no way on this earth I will be accepted into the engineering school), I should just apply under a different major and then later switch to CS?

Bump… I guess.
