I hope they continue through friday!
please stop with the “XXX” scholarship as if it is merit aid., it’s merely a tuition discount based on the fact that syracuse is a wildly overpriced 4 year diversion from reality. there are no good programs at syracuse any more. the only real jobs for su grads is starbucks. don’t go on about newhouse, where are the media jobs coming from? blogs? media is dead, the typical newhouse grad is starving. whitman is a national joke. architecture is done, engineering is a national joke, lots of good jobs for psych majors. do your parents and yourselves a favor, go to the cheapest state school you get into. don’t borrow money to go here,
@jimtoes who are you to say that? If someone likes Syracuse then they can go there if they want! Saying that the only job people can get from going to Syracuse is Starbucks is rude and completely far-fetched. If people want to disclose the amount of money they receive, let them be. It’s an accomplishment they would like to share and you are not entitled to control what they say and how they say it. Whitman IS highly respected and I know plenty of grads from different colleges within SU that, although make a lot of money, are so happy to be doing what they love. Please take your negativity somewhere else and use all that effort for something more useful. This is a thread for people who are proud to be accepted into a school they can call home.
From my college search experience SU was the only school I felt comfortable in and had all aspects that I loved. I realized it was worth an investment rather than settling for my state school (which I felt completely out of place and was only 4K less than Syracuse). Media is NOT dead, what are you on right now? Media incorporates anything online that allows people to communicate and share ideas.
@jimtoes should be ignored. I swear he goes on every thread and spews nonsense just to get a rise out of people. Nice response though @mtbd1996!
@cbpmom Thanks! and I figured! I knew the name sounded familiar!
nobody can make a rational argument against attending a grossly overpriced college? kids staring dreamy-eyed at a $248,000 4 year adventure and can’t evaluate the financial aspects? syracuse knows they’re substandard, everyone gets a “scholarship”. there is not ONE program at su that isn’t a shadow of what it once was. your kids are better off borrowing 100k and going to chef school…
by the way mbt, nobody is proud to be accepted to syr, everyone gets in. and isn’t pride the deadliest of the sins?
@jimtoes everyone gets in? It has a 53% acceptance rate, but is still a reach for kids like myself. And if you honestly think it’s wrong to feel pride at acceptance to a school on the level of Syracuse, then I don’t know what to tell you.
you sound angry and bitter af… let people make the decisions they want to make and feel the emotions they feel. there are plenty of threads about FA and the price of college on cc, perhaps you should spew your vitriol there. or just do us all a favor and return to the youtube comment section where someone of your intelligence and eloquence belongs
I am assuming that nobody has heard anything from admissions today? Of the 7 students from my daughter’s HS that applied RD, seems like 2 acceptances (Friday around 3 pm) and 5 that have heard nothing, including my daughter.
I really wish folks would stop bickering and give more input to the pertinent questions on this forum for example
connerc13 @mtbd1996 or BostonSportsFan’ posts I think one of the most interesting posts is the one asking whether or not SU will release acception notices on any weekday or on Friday’s only thank you
@OrangeWhite22 No one is sure when.
groupthink is great. enjoy the school. revisit this thread in six or seven years.
Thank you @mtbd
What school would you reccomend then
To @jimtoes and @jimtoh Yes it is true a Syracuse education is a bit steep and yes it can produce a significant financial burden but there are other facts to consider athough they may be numerous. Syracuse has a world wide reputation therefore its graduates are highly paid and prepared by great professors who are highly lettered and byspublished the networking is incredible. If you are going to bring up percentage of students that apply and are accepted then realize this. Unlike other schools Syracuse taps into students who aren’t always the best at standardized testing but SU realizes the potential of its undergraduates. As far as saving $$$ well if you as a student or parent think their are any bargains out there. There are not.By attending many "Directional state schools you may be selling yourselves short ,sure that inexpensive school that only costs 15k and allows 88% of its applicants in is just a pathway most times of menial clerk jobs upon graduation. A Syracuse education although steep is worth every penny so for all of you folks who have either been admitted or are still waiting Good Luck and remember You get what you pay for in this life. It is all about “branding” whether it is music, jeans food or everything else That is the reality .SU is a recognized brand as opposed to the schools that claim they are best value. It is the destination in this case that matters and to reach it the Name on the School DOES matter
you obviously work at su. great professors? i’ll bet 70% don’t speak english.
the only benefit to attending a grotesquely overpriced school in beautiful downtown syracuse? you get to wear your fashionable North Face wardrobe 10 months per year!
Why the bitterness ? first of all I am 62 years old and attended Arizona State University my only connection to Syracuse is my godson graduated from there (Syracuse Law) so please stop the petty BS and be more reasonable there are folks on this forum who would like information presented in a more humane fashion.Just say you piece your opinion is recognized and I have digested much of it you make good points but that is what a forum is for. Not for discouraging folks but to assist them
I actually like the comment about the North Face …clever
lol i think we can all agree trying to convince jimtoes is not worth it anymore.
in my own sick, disturbing way i am trying to help. my point was not to celebrate getting a fake scholarship. the only people that don’t recieve scholarship money are the foreign nationals. if you’re 62 you probably have an opinion of su that is wildly out of date. every one of the programs at this once fine institution have become substandard. the post graduation employment statistics are deplorable. if newhouse is a fine school that’s great. where do you work? how many sports announcers slots are there? media is laying off bigtime everywhere. the web killed media forever. you want to drain your parents bank accounts and go into hawk for a second rate degree? fine. don’t grap a picket sign in 7 years and demand forgiving of your student loans. a parent making 80k with 2 kids at su paying “only” 25k each is a disaster. when the next financial disaster hits they’ll all want their money back. if 50k per year doesnt make a dent in your finances, then enjoy. through it all, the su marketing machine is definitely doing its job, but you’re paying for it
