Taking a gap year?

Well..... I did not get into any of the colleges that I applied.
and my teachers advised me to take a year off and apply to cal states and UCs(Im living in CA) next year.
Although I am on 8 colleges' waitlists, (of course, I will go if any of them gets me off the waitlist)
I am planning to take a year off and have 1~2 internships. (and do something productive)

One of them is an internship at a congressman office.
I didn't apply to UCs and Cal states. (so stupid..) I don't know why~

Here are my stats:

etc...---my commonapp essays are okay(good enough)
These will stay, right? unless I go to a community college?

My biggest concern is that I am not us citizen.
I do not want to go to community colleges; ive been workin so hard for this moment, but it just didn't work. so I think taking a year off and apply to cal states and Uc's is the best idea for me.

Also, I believe that if I take a year off, I need to write a different kind of essays for UC,, Is this true? and is there any CC who has this kind of experience?

sorry to hear about that~ your GPA is amazing! should’ve applied for safeties!
after doing some cough stalking, it seems that you are more interested in LACs, and perhaps UCs and Calstate wouldn’t be such a great fit.
If you can get on the waitlists of 8 schools, you probably arent too far away from admission.
My advise is for you to take the gap year, and apply to some schools about the same calibre that you applied this year, plus some other safety LACs (or UCs if you want to save money). Get internships that you can write great essays about, and hopefully impress your boss enough that he’d write an additional rec for you. Also take the SAT1 again if you can, and aim to hit above 2100. cheers.

if you can get an internship in cogressman office, you definitely should do that!!

And maybe you can retake SAT and get a better score.

Best wishes to you.

yes, it is true that I ““really”” want to go to LACs, but since this year did not work out, I think I will just apply to UCs and some cal states + a few privates.

Do you think getting an internship(congressman) will help me getting into UCs?

I want to go to UCLA, UC berkeley, etc… for UCs

also don’t I need to write an essay regarding why I took a year off?

need help!
Is taking a gap year really a good idea?

was not thinking of retaking the sat1…

Well, I don’t know, cuz I need to study again…

what can be my safeties…?

A gap year is not for everyone. Best is when a gap year is used as a planned transition between high school and college. And ideally a gap year follows acceptance into a college of choice, and there is agreement between the college and the student to defer entry for a year.

In your case, I don’t think a gap year is the best choice. It doesn’t appear to be a transition but rather a reaction to the unfortunate situation that you’re in. I would encourage you to rethink your decision not to attend a community college, or to explore a college that has openings. Many do.
