Taking Eng/Stat during summer

Hello everyone..I'm attending CC rite now and planning to transfer Fall 11 to (UCLA, UCI).
I'm just worried about what class I should take this summer=/

My friend suggested that I should take Critical Reasoning and Writing (Second Transferable English Class) during summer because UC app will ask me whether I took it or not.
Is summer ENGLISH class harder than regular term class? (cuz it's only for a month......)
and will it help me improve my writing? (since it's a short term...)

Also, I have to take intro to probability and stat (one transferable math course) cuz of the TAG program with UCI which I'm going to apply for.

Will these two classes be doable during summer? There's really no time to make-up anything (grades, etc) during this short period of time if I get stuck with a bad grade.....unlike Fall/Spring term. Will this be a good idea?

Pleaseee help meeeeeeeee T0T

you are at community college no class is hard compared to UC’s (maybe some sciences like ochem and physics)

They definitely won’t care if your classes are in progress when you apply. I took the second English class last semester.

I mean, I’m not big on English, and I found the class harder than most at CC, but it was still an easy A for me. I wouldn’t have minded taking it over the summer if only because it would have gone by that much faster. I never took stats because the course required for my major wasn’t offered at my CC so I don’t really know about that.

The short term English classes can be a little hard depending on the teacher.

I have an 8 week english class, we were assigned to read 3 books (varies on range), and write … somewhere around 35-45 pages of essays, responses, etc. [not including whatever happens in class]

It depends on your teacher too. I recommend not walking in thinking of it like Music Appreciation or Art History, the teacher may have an attitude and clobber you with that.

Besides, the experience can be quite valuable. Being a good writer (and generally well spoken person) can be a big deal for those in technical fields since you can sell yourself a lot better than the dude with a translator.

Intensity though depends on the professor almost entirely. Go read reviews for the professors you’re looking at! I’ve had a few CC classes now that would make a UCB student squirm, if they were studying say - polysci or economics. lol :D

Thanks for replying everyone!! :D

If you are doing tag you have to complete your english and math by the end of fall quarter. So maybe it’s a good idea to finish it ahead.

However I don’t recommend taking english in summer you have to expect it’s harder then usual. If you are good at english/math and definitely sure you can handle it then take it and get it over with.

I’m not sure if CCCs are offering Stats during the summer. T__T I have a classmate in my Honors Seminar who has to travel to NorCal to get his Stats done, because one particular CCC only offers it…that’ll be tough, but it is do-able.

I took summer english when I was a junior in hs and it was the easiest thing I’ve ever done.

I took stats (for the social sciences) at Pierce in SoCal last summer. Ridiculously easy.

Summer/winter classes have seemed even easier than full length fall or spring classes, with few exceptions.

get those classes out of the way now. I’m taking stats my fourth semester…and I’m starting to get burned out at CCC, it’s hard just to make it to class. Definitely glad I took English over the summer. Those two classes are definitely doable over the summer, provided you keep up on your stats hw.

i did stats during winter, that English class and calc 1 during summer. the only hard part was showing up to class hahaha, it was sooooooooooooooooo long :[ 4 hours twice a week for the English class. thank god the math course was online I would pass out for being so stuck in class! So I guess it really depends on your school and teacher :D
