I didn't see your post until after I had posted mine.

I am currently a Berkeley student and transfered with a 3.95 as an English major.

imagine how the UC to UC transfer applicants while 3.5+ gpas feel. they don't have TAP, they get no priority and their gpas are compared to CCC ones on the same level.

"That's such a broad statement, how many TAP applicants do you even know?"

Truthfully I don't know many. However, I am fortunate enough to have found a forum where I can compare the stats of numerous tap applicants for impacted majors. The paragraph that "irked" you was a partly a reference to the sheer weight that TAP carries, forgive me for being unclear. I have read many posts about TAP and am appalled by the fact that GPA's as low as 3.4-3.6 (edit: relative to highly impacted majors) with tap were considered "competitive", merely as a result of the program!

"2. TAP only takes 6 - 3 Unit Semester classes or even less if you take 4 unit classes, you could have easily incorporated TAP Classes in your so called "full course load" ever semester.

It's your own fault you didn't look into this enough so don't blame the people who took the time do to TAP."

In your second point you appear to be a little bit confused. If I had the time to incorporate TAP into my schedule why wouldn't I have? I have rarely had a full course load as a result of my outside responsibilities (military/work/taking care of my siblings). You claim that I did not look into the program as much as I should have. However I have demonstrated in my initial post that I have looked into it enough to determine that it was something that I simply could not do.

"Quit complaining, if you got rejected from UCLA then you just didn't make the cut.
Don't blame TAP, blame yourself. It's blunt, but I find it to be truthful. Everyone has their own individual circumstances, if you got a bad roll of the dice, get over it."

You stated it yourself lilxlazyxboi, I am entitled to my own opinion so why shouldn't I be able to complain? I'm troubled by the fact that your words still carry a lot of negativity in its tone. Did my "petty" initial post come off as angry or insulting to you? Did I come off as excessively whiny perhaps? I don't think I did at all. I believe I expressed my frustrations in a reasonable and respectful manner.

I believe that, should I be rejected, TAP would be an obvious culprit. Why in the hell would I need to blame myself? In cases like karabear1's and mine the system fails. I'm amused by the fact that you tell karabear1 to simply adjust her work schedule around school OR don't work at all!?. If every employer catered to the needs of the students what a wonderful place this world would be! However, in reality its not, lilxlazyxboi, and I don't need to lecture you on that. Many of us NEED our jobs. Many of us CANT go to school during the day.

Admittingly, we did get a "bad roll of the dice" as you put it, but why shouldn't we able to express our dismay?

oorah -- don't take my comments as trying to discredit or belittle your efforts and personal journey, but let me play devil's advocate:

Many of us CANT go to school during the day.

The truth is, there is absolutely no such thing as "CANT." My uncle gave me a great piece of advice when I turned 20--he sent me an email saying "happy birthday" followed by him telling me that he was disappointed that I didn't apply to Stanford. Then he said something that will probably stick with me for the rest of my life: "Welcome to the real world."

When I needed to take day classes at AND generate money, I found a way: I quit my day job and made money by taking side jobs as a mechanic as well as buying and selling car parts. There were times where I had quite a decent amount of money as well as times where I would drink water 8-9 times a day to try and subdue the hunger. Point is, it's wrong to say you CAN'T do something.

At the end of the day TAP is a program that is theoretically available to any student who meets the minimum academic criteria. Whether or not you choose to include yourself in the program is a CHOICE--there's no invisible hand holding you back. It's all about how much you're willing to sacrifice.

and anyways, we'll see how effective these three little letters are when notifications come out. to be honest I still have some doubts about the power of the program. like I said, we'll see though.

@karabear1, I said I had 16 hour tuesdays and thursdays alone (work + school)
not 16 hour work schedules per week. lol

@oorah, tap is not the culprit if you got rejected. If you didn't get excepted with UCLA's high transfer rates, you just didn't make the cut, don't blame other things. Man up. If I get rejected, I'm just going to accept the fact I was rejected, move on and go to SD as my alternative as of right now. I'm not going to blame other things besides myself.

This thread sure is HooTTttt (sizzle) I'm proud of myself...

@lilxlazyxboi

"Man up"?.. please...

@poppin3000 Thanks for the story. It was encouraging.

Well just keep blaming all of your life shortcomings on everything else except your own doings.

@poppin3000, the power of the program is VERY real. 3.5 Econ TAP have got in, seen many 3.7 - 3.8's get rejected non tap on this forum. PHEAR THE TAP.

Edit: sigh.. no more.. I'm done with this bickering.

I guess all that's left is to wait... and wait... and wait...

oorah87 is obviously a troll..

"This thread sure is HooTTttt (sizzle) I'm proud of myself...

@lilxlazyxboi

"Man up"?.. please...

@poppin3000 Thanks for the story. It was encouraging."

and you do realize that people get accepted to UCLA WITHOUT TAP, dont you?

Are you kidding me!?! How much more could I possibly sacrifice? lilxlazyxboi is attacking me for sacrificing me so much that it affected my health and you're saying that people who work are not sacrificing enough. I think you guys need to go out into the real world where sometimes things are not always so cut and dry. Nice strawman by the way, poppin3000.

I'm sure most adults with children, rent, house payments, bills, etc would tell you that switching jobs simply because of inconvenience is not always feasible. Sure, when you're 18-20 years old and haven't accumulated bills and such it's easy to make a change in your life. You don't understand how much this flexibility changes as you get older and many of your obligations become cemented. There are some risks that can't be taken when there are bills to pay.

I have the same complaint as oorah and I did get into all the schools I applied to. I am not blaming TAP itself, but that the system does not support non-traditional students.

lilxlazyxboi,
Do you mean that you left home at, say 6:00 a.m. and got home at 10:00 p.m. 2 days per week? Either way, what exactly is your point? I did the same thing 3-4 days per week, plus 8 hour work days on days I didn't have school.

For all the people with sob stories of why they couldn't do TAP, that's what the personal statement is for. :D

I don't think he's a troll. I think he's responding to the ridiculous way people are attacking him.

Except that wasn't my point. I wasn't worried about not getting in at all.

As I said before:
This issue for me wasn't that I felt that I couldn't get in without TAP. In fact, I felt pretty confident that I was going to get into both Berkeley and UCLA without TAP simply because I did so well under my difficult circumstances.
Instead, it was that too many resources were concentrated into the honors program while ignoring the needs of reentry students and those who were required to work during the day.

This fact really hit me when I got a scholarship from my community college and attended the awards ceremony. EVERYONE knew each other because they were all in honors. In addition, the awards committee knew all of the recipients, except for me. I wonder how many hard working non-honors students are denied these opportunities because they are not told about them and don't have the right connections?
@ Guyy .. sorry if my last comment sounded Trollish to you... (not quite sure what that means, stuck up?) I was just making a joke.

And yes Guyy I know people get accepted without TAP.......

what's a strawman?

Good luck to everyone either way. No hard feelings.

"Straw man - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia"

You're meaning to tell me I've been duped?! ... O you're sneaky poppin... quite sneaky indeed :)

a troll is someone who goes to forums looking for trouble. you give me the impression that you're a troll because you are quite proud that your thread has taken off quickly by saying "This thread sure is HooTTttt (sizzle) I'm proud of myself..." while it has caused some arguments.
