^ ahh sorry about that

that was for ucla, i’m not an econ major, but i read somewhere on this site people who applied didn’t finish some kind of calc class which is why they got rejected.

^ ahh sorry about that

that was for ucla, i’m not an econ major, but i read somewhere on this site people who applied didn’t finish some kind of calc class which is why they got rejected.

^ i just checked the pre reqs for econ major to ucla and it only requires calc. 1 and calc. 2?

By ‘pre reqs’, are you all referring to just the major prep/prerequisite classes that I need for my major? For instance, I’m a Japanese major, so my ‘pre reqs’ would just be considered the elementary/intermediate Japanese courses as well as a Japanese civilization class that I’ve already taken at my community college. (Per UCLA’s Course Catalog)

Or, do ‘pre reqs’ refer to ALL the GE courses (like English, Math, Science, etc.) that I need to take at the community college level in order to transfer?

realistically you won’t be accepted as a transfer unless you’ve completed the prerequisites. i had a 3.89 with my GE’s done but one calculus left was left unfinished and i didn’t get in.

What’s your major, jstrassner? Did you need Calculus for your major?

You couldn’t finish it in Spring of 2009 for Fall 2009 transfer? Or did you just not have it done by Fall 2008?

The ‘prereqs’ question comes up here, again! When you guys are talking about ‘prereqs’, are you talking about the prerequisite major prep. courses you need to complete at the community college for your specific majors? Like completing Calculus if you are an Economics major, among other courses like Macro/Microecon, etc.

Or, are you talking about ALL the GE classes you need to take in order to transfer to a UC (like a science course, a history course, etc.)

I think this would clear a lot up!

^ Hiroshi. When we talk about prereqs, we are referring to courses that satisfy the major preparation. These are the courses you must take at community college to get accepted into “impacted majors”. For Econ it is Calc 1, Calc 2, Criticial reading and composition course, Micro, Macro (For UCLA). If you look on assist.org it will give you the prereqs required for the major and school you plan on transferring to.

All the GE classes you need are normally referred to as Breadth or IGETC.

UChopeful, thanks so much for the information! I really appreciate it. :)

Sounds good, so when we talk about required GE courses, they are referred to as ‘IGETC’ or breadth. Major prep courses are referred to as ‘prereqs’. Gotcha. Thanks!
