which is better to have completed when applying to UCLA??? ...

A) TAP and IGETC
B) IGETC and PRE-REQ
C) IGETC and TAP
D)TAP and PRE-REQ

Uh, all of them? They’re all very important and beneficial, but of the three, I would say TAP is least important. You can’t get into UCLA without finishing all your pre-reqs and though you don’t necessarily need IGETC to transfer, I don’t know anyone who’s transferred without it.

i am on my last year at CC and i could only have 2 done out of the 3 before transferring so before i pick my classes for the fall semesteri just want to know which is the best duo for applying to ucla…but i heard completing TAP will increase your chances to where it is a 85% chance you will get accepted.

Yeah but TAP is useless if you haven’t finished your pre-reqs and IGETC if applied to your major by spring.

A very high GPA

Pre-reqs completed

A kick a$$ essay

TAP/IGETC

B definitely. Classes are packed at UCLA at the moment; I’ve only been able to register for one class that I really wanted for the fall quarter.

If your dream is to go to UCLA, complete all three. It is to your advantage to complete all three. But to answer your question, B. Completing all major preparation and general ed’s (IGETC) at CC is great since when you transfer and have orientation, you can sign up for upper division courses and avoid packed lower division courses. You’ll save money and graduate earlier as well.

Yeah, TAP increases your chances but you can’t qualify for TAP unless you finish IGETC. So IGETC and pre-reqs are a must.

So, I would think that finishing IGETC seems to be better than Completing TAP for application?

to make it even clearer, YES.

in order of importance:

IGETC
PreReqz

(gap)

TAP

although pre reqs and igetc are a lot more important than TAP, i think having all your pre reqs done is slightly more important than having igetc completed, imo.

you have until the end of spring prior to transfer to complete igetc; however, some competitive uc’s like ucla and cal require you to have your pre reqs done by the end of fall prior to transfer.

if you were to look at the admits/rejects threads, you can see people with 3.8-4.0’s get rejected because they were missing a couple pre reqs.

I was under the impression you could have the pre-reqs done spring 2010 for fall 2010 transfer. As long as you showed on the application you were going to take those classes in the Spring. Am I mistaken?

UChopeful, yes you can have pre-reqs done by Spring before you transfer.

Where does it say you must finish IGETC people???

We go over this over and over and over again. IGETC is not required for transfer- period!

You can complete the requirements in OTHER ways besides IGETC.

From UCLA website:

Completion of the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC), UCLA general education requirements, or another UC campus’s breadth requirements is highly recommended for applicants to the College of Letters and Science and the School of Arts and Architecture.

So for one, what major are you- and two, can you complete the UC breadth requirements instead of the IGETC?

if you’re in an extremely competitive major like biz econ & communications, it is HIGHLY recommended that you have all your pre reqs completed by fall prior to transfer.

for example a couple of econ students with 4.0 GPA’s got rejected from CAL because they didn’t have Calc 3 finished by fall

@Andrizzle— Where does it state it is highly recommended to have the pre-reqs completed by Fall prior to transfer? Just curious. Everywhere I’ve looked it says pre-reqs must be completed by Spring prior to transfer.

Is this just information you obtained from students who were denied?

yes, it was.

search for the official “UCLA admits” thread for 2010. Read most of the replys, when posting stats the majority of people admitted already had their pre reqs done by the end of fall but were still in the process of completing igetc.

in the “official ucla rejects” thread, a couple people called ucla to find out the condition of their rejection and were actually able to hear from a ucla rep who explicitly stated that the reason that said person[s] was/were rejected was because they were missing a pre req(most likely from bizz econ or communications, and/or their gpa wasn’t high enough (and these are people with gpas ranging from 3.8 and above). most people who posted their stats were missing “1 or 2 pre reqs”

you are right; however, you must have all pre reqs completed by spring prior to transfer, but it is RECOMMENDED that you have them done by the time you turn in your work in progress transcript to the UCs you’re applying to (after fall) especially to the competitive ones like ucla and cal.

Thank You for clarifying.

If you’re serious about applying to UCLA, finish them all.

“for example a couple of econ students with 4.0 GPA’s got rejected from CAL because they didn’t have Calc 3 finished by fall”

I don’t think Cal 3 is one of the major prerequisite for CAL’s Econ major (just checked on assist.org).

I agree with most, getting a high GPA and completing the pre-req is top priority.
