How long do you think your guys’ essays will be overall? I’m thinking mine will be between 700-1000, but I’m freaking myself out because of how some of you guys said you went over the limit.
One more thing - for the third essay, I was thinking about writing about disagreements I’ve had w/ an authority figure (parent/teacher/etc. - I’m on pretty equal grounds w/ them, despite their position of authority), but I’m worried it won’t be an adequate response bc they aren’t exactly a peer. Do you think it’d be better to write about something b/w me and someone who isn’t an authority figure (e.g. classmate)?
@dreamivory you don’t need to freak out. People who go over the limit should be the one worrying lol. As long as your ideas are strong and unique, then you are good
@correcto hmmm… who exactly do you have a conflict with?
@cxnxicee a parent!
I think writing about a parent should be fine, I’m writing about an administrator.
@correcto I wouldn’t write about a conflict with parent because no matter how close your relationship is, I don’t think you can call your parent as a peer (at least for this kind of essay since the selection committee is probably looking for people who can fit well in this program and you interact with people at your age in TASP rather than with a parent) but I don’t know if you have any different circumstances.
@correcto , I actually think that that is fine. The word peer is defined as someone who has same age, status, or ability as you. Although they aren’t the same age or status, you both share the ability to think critically and indpendently despite being in the same family. Though, again, I could be wrong.
Though, what really matters is your ability to showcase that maturity they are looking for. They need to see how self-reflective you are, and how, as an individual, you view a situation like that and how you initially reacted to it, and still acknowledged the fact that you did something wrong.
i cant write anymore.
@palinoia I believe in you! Go get yourself some snacks, make a coffee, and rest for a while. You can do it!
Hmm for the second essay, do you guys think the “issue” has to be a generally controversial topic? What do they mean by issue? It kind of sounds like they mean a controversial one, but it also sounds like something that is just an issue to you???
@silverarrow15 whatever is an issue to you! they will be open-minded
is anyone else skeptical of what they’ve written for the third long essay? like I think it would be very mature, refreshing and touching to go very in depth about what you’ve done wrong and to kind of come clean about how you hurt someone, but it’s like…what if I cast myself in an unfavorable light, you know what I mean lol? I think I’m just going to be as honest and humble as I can lol
Does anyone know the acceptance rate of TASP
also for those suffering writer’s block: it’ll feel like you’re not getting anything done when you’re typing, b/c the rate at which you type is probably much faster than the rate at which ideas about sequence/the material pop up in your head. I suggest writing a draft on paper first, because I did that this time and it worked so well and I felt better about me being so slow with this whole process!
@cxnxicee Thanks! I guess I just have to keep going. What do you guys think is the minimum word count on these essays?
Just submitted! Phew, I’m not completely satisfied with my essays but oh well.
Hello everyone just joined CC and saw this forum. I’m finishing my applications and editing last pieces, but I feel like I answered some of the prompts incorrectly. Did everyone else write an entire essay on the questions about experiences and challenges they have had?
@MangoLover11223 I guess the acceptance rate was 5% last year?
@palinoia all my essays are around 1000 words, but I think some people wrote about 700 words
@TechTechnic you mean you wrote about your challenges in response to the third prompt?
There would be the statement like “Reflect on your blah blah…” then the three bulletin points where it asked questions ( Expeirences, parts of your education that challenge you, and the if you attentted Tass) I wrote an essay for each of the questions that applied to me. Was I only supposed to write paragraphs?
Thanks!
Also, is everyone just listing their favorite bookies, movies, etc or writing it in paragraph form?
@TechTechnic im pretty sure it’s supposed to be one essay with three paragraphs
