does anyone know what the “community activities” under the parent section means?
@PranavDulepet TASP is only for juniors. Sophomore can only apply to TASS.
@memeqween101 I think community activities refers to if your parent is like in the PTA, is a soccer coach, etc.
@Kingtape I wrote about an Australian young adult fantasy novel. What really matters is how important it was to you, not whether it fits with current social issues and the like That novel had truly sparked a change in how I saw the world, so I was able to write something significant and personal as a result. Go with something that will help you do the same!
How does one go about the kneeling protest essay without turning it into a dialogue-filled story? Or is that the only way to do it? Because my essay has a lot of hypothetical conversations of what would happen if this actually went down.
I have the same quandary as Mad Scientist, and with it comes the problem of assuming what my adversaries would say. And, if I were to abandon the dialogue, how would I restrain myself from starting every sentence with 'I wouldn’t?
In my attempts to fill out my essays, I’ve been met with a lot of feelings of inadequacy. I’ve only gotten my invitation because I made a 1300 on my PSAT, which seems to be low compared to other applicants I’ve seen. I wouldn’t consider myself that good of a writer, either. Do you think I should still try and apply?
P.S. My post HS interests aren’t even particularly centered around humanities. I kind of aspire to be a neuroscientist
@GoBears2023 @5toryt3ll3r
What was the interview process like?
i made a 1480 on my psat and was not given an invitation…
don’t think the PSAT scores matter at all to TASP @mullophone. from what I’ve heard repeatedly, it’s like 90% essay based
@5toryt3ll3r thanks for the advice!
@Kingtape I guess I had just been freaking out. Thanks
@mullophone I’m in a similar boat (PSAT of 1360, interest in neuroscience), but I do think it’s worth it to go if you get in–I certainly intend to. Even if it doesn’t help much with your college applications, it’s bound to be a great learning experience, and from what I hear out-of-classroom discussions cover all sorts of topics.
Oh, and for your writing issues I don’t think it would be that bad if you use “I would” and “I wouldn’t” frequently. I’m under the impression that they pay more attention to how you would treat your peers than they do to how you word it.
Best of luck with your application.
wait hold up is it bad if an essay is like 70% dialogue?
hey yall!!! we got this! i’m also on the tasp essay grind rn but i believe in us i’m struggling so much w my essays too too haha but it’ll all work out in the end. i got rly close to a mental breakdown the other day bc i didnt think i could do it but i realized its really not the end of the world. if you get super stressed take a break, listen to some music, etc. mental health is more important. good luck everyone!
@Anonymousia hmm personally i feel like that’s fine! dialogue is also engaging which is good.
@icravedeath ahhh thanks for ur feedback and advice! Also gl to you too!! TASP sounds fricking amazing but yeah it’s not the end of the world if we don’t get in
How’s everyone doing w essays so far?? I’ve finished the first two, almost done/stuck with the third, and haven’t even started the fourth
yep!! ofc! dont worry, im not done w any of my essays if that makes u feel any better. i’m 3/4 done w the first, i have a pretty gross draft for the second thats gonna need a lot of polishing, and my third and fourth are still in the most rudimentary states of embryo, aka like 1 line of brainstorm for each. so like ur good haha
I have 2 mostly done, have written a really bad draft of the critical analysis essay I plan on completely scrapping, and haven’t touched the “how have you hurt someone” one. That one is tricky… if it were less recent, maybe I could come up with a bette rexample, but I’m drawing a blank rn
I’m almost done with essay 2 and then I only have 3a. I don’t think they’re very good and I really hope I can get to be interviewed
