I just learned today that I must mail my tax return to each college my daughter has applied to, in addition to to fafsa. Is this correct? Sounds like a big pain. Thanks in advance.
Well, I believe the truth of your statement depends on what each college requires. One of my son’s prospective colleges does not want them at all; another only wants them “upon request.” But the majority do want tax returns uploaded via IDOC or sent directly to the college. Check each college’s financial aid page for exact requirements.

Is it a bigger pain than not getting aid?
Check first. One school my daughter goes to took the tax returns one year, but then said the rules changed and they could only take tax transcripts. The other daughter’s school will only take the forms for a specific reason - an appeal of FA, verification (they’ll tell you what they need).
