Quick question: What do you think is better for a student who wishes to major in biology and eventually go to medical school, Seton Hall or TCNJ?

Are you instate or out? Do finances play a role in your decision-making process?

(My D applied to both schools and really liked both for different reasons.)

I am in state. As for finances, I have already been accepted to Seton Hall with a 20,000 a yr. scholarship and I am still awaiting notification from TCNJ. However in the end, I believe they will be close in price, so for discussion sake let’s say finances are of no concern.

TCNJ is a better school.

Do you go to a Catholic high school?

What will your major be?

What do you want in a school? Would you enjoy the sports at Seton?

Will you know anyone at Seton or TCNJ? If so, is that important to you?

TCNJ is probably NJ’s 3rd best school imho. Seton Hall isn’t that great except for Nursing and Business. If you want to go to med. school, I would go to TCNJ. If you got into TCNJ, did you apply to Rutgers? If you got into RU, I’d recommend going there instead of TCNJ for Biology.

TCNJ is much better than Seton Hall for biology. Their biology major is considered their hardest major to get into admissions-wise and they have affiliations with UMDNJ for research. They also have a 7-year BS/MD with UMDNJ that is extremely competitive and as a result there are always some NJ academic stars in every entering class in the program.

I’d go with TCNJ. They have an excellent biology program and send many students off to top medical schools every year.

@mom2collegekids:no, I didn’t attend a catholic hs but I am catholic. But religious affiliation doesn’t make or break a school for me. I will major in biology and while I enjoy watching sports I have very little interest in any other level above spectatorship. I will not know anyone at seton but a few at tcnj which is of little concern to me even though it will be a slight comfort. @everyone: thanks for all your important and as I believe someone asked I was accepted into rutgers also, but there are tons of threads comparing tcnj to rutgers so I decided to see what the seton hall vs. Tcnj feedback was like. Ultimately tcnj remains my first choice but as they take later for notification I’m getting anxious and just want to be prepared if I’m not granted admission :(…thanks again !

Hi,

I only asked if you’re going to a Catholic high school, because many graduates do enjoy going on to Catholic colleges. Not so much for the religious aspect, but for whatever reasons! lol (I went to an all-girls Catholic high school.)

I think that you could be happy at either school. Have you toured both schools?

while I enjoy watching sports I have very little interest in any other level above spectatorship

That’s kind of what I meant. I was asking if you’re the type to enjoy being a spectator. So, I was thinking that maybe Seton would have that aspect more than TCNJ. It can be a lot of fun watching college sports with your college mates. My kids go to a big football school, and they really enjoy the games (even tho one of them didn’t care about football before he went to college; now, he’s a big fan.)

Hey am a student from western Maryland (Frederick) and am applying to TCNJ. I was wondering if someone could tell me about my chances, I have a 3.92 GPA so far in community college in moderately difficult classes. But did poorly in High School I had a 2.75 GPA and a 1200 on the (3 part ) SAT. Do I have any chance of getting into TCNJ or am I kidding myself?

^ Probably depends on how many credits you have finished. If you reached a certain amount they probably won’t consider it too much imo. However the 3.92 is looking good in terms of transferring to TCNJ.

I have 55 total credits
