From what I know, DL for which you apply has no bearing on your admission. What happens is they “internally” admit your first (meaning, you’ve passed TFA’s rigorous admission process and you are in). This usually happens during the week following final interviews. Then, in the next week, a team of placement specialists tries to match your preferences with what is available. Once they have finished matching (in our case, on Nov 8, a bit longer than 2 weeks after the final interviews), you get notified, and if you are admitted, then you get your placement on that day, too.

As you all know, some people find out on notification day that they are waitlisted. What this means is essentially that you were admitted (TFA wants you), but there was no placement for you, given your preferences. Thus, logically, those who apply for 4DL would probably be waitlisted more often than those who apply for first two DL’s (when no spots have been filled yet).

Our campus recruiter was pretty open about this process (she is so awesome, too! Very inspiring!). The reason why so many people get rejected, according to her, is that all those people did not rock their interviews and applications according to TFA’s admission model (aka “How we evaluate applicants” on TFA’s website - demonstrated past leadership, perseverance and sustained focus in the face of challenges, etc.), not because there was no space for them.

Question to everyone: has anyone’s transitional funding status changed from “Under Review” to smth else?

My transitional funding status has not changed. Has yours? In past deadlines, the earliest reported changes (from what I saw) were approximately a day before decisions. Guess it’s different this year.

Mine haven’t changed, either. I also think it is too early for a change, because they have probably just figured out who is in and who isn’t, so I would guess that the placements are being figured out along with transitional funding in the next 10 days or so. Which is why I was a bit surprised to see that someone’s transitional funding had changed (which can mean two things - either I am wrong with my estimations, or that person’s transitional funding status had changed to Compete on the main Status page, which is the same page where you see Complete after you upload you transcripts, coursework, etc., which simply means that s/he had submitted all the required docs for transitional funding). c9chung, please please please clarify your transitional status change for us!

P.S. I hate the waiting game! lol. I feel exactly like 2.5 years ago when I applied to transfer to UC from CC. That one was so nerve-wracking (even though I ended up at the top school, all the nerves I’ve lost while waiting… Ughhh). LOL.

Thanks for the explanation dreamingirl. It helped, but now I am replaying my interview and wondering if “rocked” it. I know that the interview is over and I can not go back in time and change anything…so i just need to stop analyzing everything. This is soooo stressful.

I’m so nervous about TFA. I think you’re probably right about the timelines. I’ve gathered a similar timeframe myself. My campus recruiter was also excellent and forthcoming, and there’s a lot of information on the Internet to be found. I hate the waiting game because I feel like there’s nothing else I can do. I’ve given this application process my all, and now I can only hope that it’ll be enough. In terms of transitional funding status updates, I personally thought last week was very early but my status changed to complete on the mainpage as soon as I submitted the form, which is the only thing that makes me think that’s not what c9chung is talking about. I just can’t imagine TFA isn’t aware that transitional funding status changes have served as an early indicator of acceptance, and that makes me curious about a status change this early. I guess only time will tell.

I know, waiting is very stressful! Let’s focus on positive things thought and not overthink our interviews, since there is nothing we can change at this point! Can you guys please keep everyone posted in terms of Transitional Funding changes, in case you experience any? :)

I’ve been doing a bunch of Institute/Induction research. I think, at first, it was to make myself excited, but now it’s just making me anxious. I know, I know–what’s not making me anxious these days?

What did everyone preference in terms of subject and grade level placements?

I put Delta and New Orleans, as well as other slithers states/cities. I figured the need is the greatest there! In terms of grade level, I put elementary/middle/high school, mostly Math and History/Social science. Really want to teach Math-don’t know of I am qualified thought :)

I decided to join you all in the waiting game! Can you believe that we find out in a week!? I’m hoping for the best but we’ll see. I applied 2DL and had a phone interview. I felt really good about my in-person interview. I have no regrets!

As far as my regional preferences are concerned, I put all of TX, CA, Chicago, Phoenix, and Denver as “highly preferred” locations. While I did not list any regions as “least preferred,” I did put down a lot of regions under “preferred.” I’d be willing to go anywhere! :)

And while I put down that I was most interested in teaching middle school and high school, I also agreed to teach bilingual education. I took a Spanish test for it. However, I have not heard back about my test results… We were suppose to find out October 27th so it’s making me a little nervous… Another girl at my school hasn’t heard back either so I’m trying not to think the worst. Yet, I don’t see TFA making a mistake like that. Anyway, I e-mailed admissions so hopefully I’ll hear back soon.

I hope I preferenced enough regions! I ranked 21 of them, with none of them “least preferred.” I don’t think I realized Denver was a region, or I definitely would’ve put it! I thought Colorado was a region in its entirety and I don’t think I could do the mountains.

I left the interview with no regrets. I don’t know that everything I said was perfect, but I do know that I was never going to give a better interview. It’s just all this waiting time that’s making me doubt myself! Just over a week now! I can hardly believe it!

I said I wanted to teach elementary, middle (generalist), or HS English or History/Social studies, but also said that I would teach MS or HS math.

I’m surprised TFA hasn’t emailed you the results yet! It’s probably good that you emailed them. I’d be willing to bet that they’re just swamped though and that you don’t have to assume the worst. I’m sure they’d let you know either way if they told you they’d tell you the results.

Sorry to get people all confused about my status change! What I meant was when I click on Transitional Funding -> Status, it states, “Transitional Funding Application Status: Complete” where it used to say “Under Review.”

I put elementary as highly preferred, and I don’t remember what I put for the rest because that’s pretty much all I want… haha.

Anyone from socal? Just read the news about the snowstorm in the eastcoast and slightly afraid of having to possibly relocate there now, especially since I have been spoiled by 75 degree weather in October.

Hey c9chung, thank you for clarification! I think this is a very good sign for you! Yay! anyone else’s status changed like c9chung’s? Mine is still the same!

Thanks for clarifying, c9chung! I think that sounds like a great sign. :)

No status change, but I’m not taking it to mean anything (yet). I interviewed on the last day and I know they take placement into consideration when it comes to transitional funding, so hopefully it’s a sign that they’re still working on a placement and not that I haven’t been accepted. If they could have everyone’s stuff processed already, the notification date would be this week instead of next!

Toydiamondring, I am totally following your logic indeed, last year transitional status finding changes happened a day or two before the notification! So let’s wait wait wait and keep each other updated!

toydiamondring posted about an article that said 31% of final interview applicants get accepted - anyone know anything more about this? I can’t find any info. online.

Wow. That’s fascinating. Although if you really look at it the acceptance rate is closer to 27%. While 31% are admitted, a few of those are waitlisted.
