@iamwalrus2012: thanks for the info. I guess it can go either way and that reassures that we are definitely still in it for the win!

I have just learned that TFA has a waiting list. OMG. Please no waiting list for me. I will go crrraaaazzzzy if there’s any more waiting. Please please TFA accept or flat out reject me, so I can move on with my life. lol.

@TFAhopeful - Please let me know if you do receive any transitional funding! We have until May to submit the form, so it would be helpful to know. :-)

@Coco1112 - I feel the same way! It’s my main priority right now!

@TFAhopeful: I wouldn’t view the waiting list as a bad thing, though! Apparently it means that TFA really WANTS you, they just haven’t found an open position in the region where they want to place you. Keep in mind TFA can’t force districts to hire corps member (although it seems like TFA has deals with some districts, such as the high-need areas) and that corps members are still competing with teachers for the same jobs. And!, from what I’ve read, it seems like most people who are wait-listed eventually get off the wait-list. :D

To everyone else - Thanks for the welcome!

And some questions:
Which high-need areas did you list as places that you would “highly prefer” or “prefer” to be placed?
What was your lesson plan and how did it go? (This is more for fun, since I thought this part of the final interview was the most entertaining/exciting! )

I placed Las Vegas as my high-need priority, along with Miami and Greater Philadelphia.

I felt that the lesson plan was the component of the final interview that went the most smoothly. I work as a health educator, so I just took a lesson that I normally do and cut it down to 5 min. Worked out perfectly, actually.

As for the group discussion, I volunteered to be the recorder so I was trying to contribute as well as write and I don’t know how that came across…

@winterbaby017: To be honest, I’m pretty flexible for the most part, so I ranked quite a few of the high-need priority regions. I think Greater Philadelphia would be awesome because you get to do your MA at UPenn, so good luck!!

And I agree - I really enjoyed the sample teaching lesson component, and I especially loved seeing everyone’s lessons! I thought almost everyone from my group did a great job. I did a math lesson because I would love to teach math, if admitted.

Although I liked most of the people in my group, one person dominated the group discussion portion, which in turn made the entire group look bad because we didn’t manage our time well. Hopefully the interviewers took this into consideration… But no sense dwelling on something that I had no control over! Such is the nature of group interviews…

@winterbaby017: Yes, most definitely. I think I would have to be accepted into the program first though. haha.

@iamthewalrus2012: Yes, I agree. Being on the waiting list isn’t at all a bad thing. I just wouldn’t want to wait any longer. lol.

1.) I placed Mississippi Delta and Memphis as one of my preferences.

2.) I taught Chemistry since I would love love love to teach the subject. I had just wished they would let me dress up as Bill Nye the science guy.

Did anyone place Hawaii, New York, or Florida on their preference list? I would enjoy to be placed in any of these states.

Hey everyone! Joining the thread. I applied for the 2DL, went straight to the final interview, and interviewed on Fri, Oct 21st. Playing the waiting game with you all :)

I taught my 5 minute lesson on slope and I think it went well. Didn’t speak much during the group collaboration because I was really put off by a few individuals who took over/spoke over everyone else… but I mentioned it in my individual interview… hopefully that won’t work against me. Other than that, I preferenced the bay area.

Good luck everyone! Keep yourselves busy this weekend~~

@tfahopeful: I put NY on my list. I’m actually from NY so I am definitely interested in working to close the achievement gap here.

As for my fundin status, I applied late so it still says under review. After reading someones post that mentioned how they r open to some extra money being tossed their way, I figured I would apply. Initially, I was just going to utilize my savings.

I was good at being distracted this weekend, but now that it’s Homework Sunday, I can’t seem to think about much else besides TFA decisions. Whoops.

I taught an elementary math lesson, with simple addition and subtraction. Thought the lesson was the best part of the interview day.

Did anyone have an interviewer or fellow interviewee purposefully mess with them during the lesson?

I felt my lesson went really well and did not have an interviewer mess with me or ask any questions. I had a short quiz at the end that the interviewers did not complete, so that’s why I could not “call” on them to answer. However, when other applicants asked questions aloud and the interviewer was called on they always gave a wrong answer on purpose.

Everyone is posting about their transitional funding and I thought I would share what mine looks like.
A lot of people notice that their funding changed to “complete,” mine says “under review” but then below it there is a chart that says Document(s) Verified by Transitional Funding and it has a list of certain things they verified.

A copy of the first four (4) pages of your parent(s)/guardian(s) most recent tax return
OR
A copy of this year’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Student Aid Report (SAR) for 2011/2012 school year

Documentation verifying current amount of Federal Student Loans ( 48367)

and next to each of these it says “yes” which showed up about a week ago and then again a few days ago to the verifying undergrad pell grant.
It seems like transitional funding is an entirely different department that looks through all this material.
So mine still says “under review” but it has all this detailed info about the actual things they have verified.
Is anyone else’s like this?

@shayden39. Mine doesn’t have the verified “yes” like yours is showing. It seems like they’ve verified your documents.

@toydiamondring. Like winterbaby017 had said, the interviewers gave the wrong answers. I think they just wanted to see how you’d react to the situation.

OMG. 2 more days guys! I cannot wait to have all this waiting over.

i just got off the phone with a friend who applied last year and she said that her transitional funding did change to complete, but she did not ultimately get accepted. kind of makes me nervous because like many of you all mine now says complete too.

None of the applicants in my group tried to sabotage one another. To be honest, if any did, I am positive it reflected poorly on them since that type of behavior clearly demonstrates an individual’s inability to be a team player. However, one of the interviewers asked almost every single person a question, as if s/he were a confused student. And like @TFAhopeful said, I think it was just to see how the “teacher” would react to the situation. :)

Still no change in transitional funding status. Feeling sort of like “eh” in this waiting period. Can’t decide if I want to see the acceptance/rejection in my email inbox or by logging onto the website on Tuesday… Right now I’m leaning towards not checking my email after 1pm on Tuesday…

I’m sort of in your boat. The section asking for pell grant documentation popped up only a couple days ago but with a N/A next to it. The middle two cells have “yes” next to them while the top cell has some details about how I messed up and need to re-submit stuff.

Don’t know what this means…good luck to everyone!

Yeah mine says N/A too, I think this probably means that they don’t need this info or it was included in documentation that we have already given!!
Hopefully this is a good sign. This waiting game is driving me crazy.

In my group, the interviewers did ask random questions (as if they were confused students). I think this is purely to see how we would react should something like this happen in the classroom, and so I kind of expected them to do so :)

Ahhh, 2 more days, even less! Please keep posting about transitional funding updates/changes!

I’m still ignoring transitional funding until there’s a dollar amount on that page. I will consider that (and only that) an early indicator of acceptance. Still, can’t wait to find out. I’m so excited by all the possibilities a TFA acceptance would bring. I haven’t been a nailbiter in years, but I haven’t been able to control myself this week!
