@msmatt question… are you trying to join TFA because you felt the traditional teacher preperation wasn’t enough for you? if you don’t mind me asking

@hallas My colors are the exact same as yours. I too did not see this as any sign of anything. I believe the required actions on the status page is grey because all deadlines have passed and the optional actions are white because it is still possible to apply for TF until April 10th.

Also-- has anyone moved to complete yet. From what I’ve seen so far everyone just has verification. I might have missed something though

natgeowild,

I didn’t have a problem with traditional teacher training, but I just want a different perspective at this point. I have been trained through the university, the school district, and self-taught to some extent. I do believe I learned the most as a teacher with on-the-job, learn-as-you-go training. Teachers don’t get the sort of preparation that other professions have. Even the training you will receive won’t prepare you for what you will dive into because you never know the specific kids or the specific conditions that you will discover on the job. I would like to dabble into a wealth of resources and training strategies that TFA provides to even more expand my developing knowledge. I can only become better from this point.

It is equally important to note that training in and of itself is controlled and therefor unrealistic when you are teaching. There isn’t the direct feedback or reliable mentoring or clear support systems in place – at least in my 2 years of teaching experience. Teachers will learn the best by doing the work, getting feedback, and correcting. Traditional teaching internship/training has the same goal and from my knowledge, TFA institute is not much different. So the argument of traditional training vs tfa training vs internship training is silly to me.

Yea, everyone, as soon as you get a “complete” let us know! So that we can see when that is happening, but remember guys, usually it happens 12am eastern on notification day :p

TFA2260,

What is your ideal subject area? Did you hear about Jax institute? There was talk about it being in philly but now it appears on the 2014 institute schedule as hosting its own regional institute, which would be ideal. What do you know about this?

@msmatt Jacksonville has their own Institute

@msmatt i see, thanks for that. I was just curious.

I have read every 4th DL post since the end of interviews, a few have posted that their TF stuff is Under Review, with documents verified. However, no one has stated that their TF status has changed from “Under Review” to “Complete” I think we will see that happening over the next day or two, with most of it happening on notification day.

I wasn’t that anxious about it, but y’all are driving me up the wall, now! Haha!

@msmatt No I hadn’t heard about it potentially being in Philly! I did my undergrad in Philly so that would not have been so bad- but that’s great to see they are sticking with an in-town institute.

I’m most qualified for Spanish or Bilingual Ed, but I’d also do Elem/Early Childhood or Social Studies. I just wouldn’t feel comfortable teaching math or science, and I saw some people got those assignments when they ranked them as least preferred. Though I’m pretty sure in FL that’s not a possibility with the course requirements for certification.

What are you teaching now?

Yeah Florida is pretty strict with their requirements to teach math. Either you have earned 30 credits in mathematics (which would be rare for most non-math folks) or you have majored in math. I think that makes a lot of sense. I would not want my math teacher to have no real background in the content. I am currently teaching 10th grade English. If I’m admitted to TFA and I remain at my school – I will probably teach 10th grade again next year. It is by far the most difficult subject to teach – and everyone knows this at my school, lol. We have both FCAT reading and FCAT writing weighing on us.

I just checked my TF status and it says “verifying current amount of Federal Student Loans ( 198184)” and “verifying undergrad Pell Grant”. I don’t have any info in the notes section nor has anything been “verified” and it says, “We have not review your application or documents” This can be so confusing. Does “verifying” mean they are actually working on the TF application. I know it sounds stupid for me to ask that, but I am just trying to see improvement…kinda of like a lot of you regarding your applications.

Does it say “Yes” next to “Tax Return” “Pell Grant” etc. happ1one?

@hallas It does not say yes, yet it just says verifying.

Just give it some time. I just went through a few 1DL and 2DL stuff and some of their stuff had no change for days after the applicant center stuff closed. Meaning you still have time for your stuff to change from NO to YES for verification. TF status, whether people want to believe it or not, does prove as a good indicator of acceptance. Even if your status stays “Under Review” but all your documents say “Yes” (meaning they were verified), it is likely you’re in.

However, things DO change all the way up to notification day, even a few hours before notifications are sent out. So, for those that have no change, do not fret. It is Sunday and I doubt any changes will be made today. I would check midmorning tomorrow and see if there are any changes. I hope that helps.

@hallas Yes. My status does say “under review” and it says “we have not reviewed your application documents.” So I am going to stay positive. I did choose a high need area (Detroit) so I will still remain hopeful, but it is crazy how so many people are getting their applications verified and I am still waiting. I will remain positive.

A lot of people posting for the 4DL have not seen a change, either. And we all know more than a few people will be accepted.
So I wouldn’t fret until maybe 4-5pm EST on notification day, to be honest. That’s when the last changes are typically made in regards to TF.

what if it says incomplete, but their giving you up until April 10th

If you haven’t submitted your documents then you won’t have any indicators about your acceptance or TF status.
Have you submitted your documents? They give everyone until April 10th, of course those that are not accepted would obviously have no reason to submit it.
