Still “patiently” waiting…

I just found out I was accepted into the 2014 corps and placed in Baltimore. I am very happy to be accepted, but my reaction is mixed because while I was placed in my second city of choice, I was really hoping to be placed in DC. They didn’t tell me my subject or grade level. The email said I would be contacted by someone in a couple of days to answer any questions I might have. TNTP did place me in DC so I am going to have some thinking to do.

@spedteacher84 I imagine you will hear something soon. Hang in there!

2014 Corps on South Louisiana - 1st choice!

Congratulations!

Congratulations to both of you!

Thanks! I am now in the process of writing down all of the questions I have. I wish I could speak with a TFA staff member now because I have so many questions.

woot woot! Congratulations guys, our first two acceptances of the 3DLers!!

Congrats!!!

I just had an hour long conversation with a TFA alum. It went really well and I was able to get a lot of my questions answered. I am also a lot more excited about potentially teaching in Baltimore. I am definitely glad that I have some time before I have to make a decision between the two programs.

That’s great that you guys got in! And to get your top or 2nd choice region is pretty awesome too. I had like 7 in my highly preferred so if I got any one of those, I’d be thrilled. Just about three more weeks now!

@TFAHopeful29 - did they call you? I need to actually write down questions for whenever I’m contacted by someone from my region. I guess we find out what we’re teaching with everyone else on the 7th?

@spedteacher84 Yes I was called last night, which I was very happy about because I had already written down about a dozen questions concerning things from certification costs (which are $14,000 in Baltimore which I didn’t realize!) to just learning more about the city of Baltimore as well as when we learn about TF funding and grade and subject placement.

I was also glad for the call because I had really wanted to be placed in DC, but I was told on the call that the majority of people who are placed in the DC area are not actually placed in DC, but in Prince George county, which is only a little closer to DC than Baltimore is.

We won’t learn about grade level, subject or TF funding until January 9th, which is a little disappointing because I would like to know that before making my final decision. It was very interesting because my contact said all they did was decide if we were accepted and where we would be placed. However, they had not even started to look at subject and grade level yet. I had always thought this was part of the decision of where you were placed, but maybe not?

My contact did say it would most likely be something I highly preferred. I definitely got the impression as long as I could be certified in one of my highly preferred subject areas that would be the subject area they would give me.

Anyway, definitely write down questions as you think of them because I wouldn’t be surprised if you get a call today. Also, ask your contact if they can email you the placement packet for your area. We don’t have access to those until January 9th either, but my contact offered to email me the packets last night because they have a lot of information and answered a lot of my questions.

I’m currently in the process of writing a pro and con list for each program because I really have no idea which way to go at this point.

Got my acceptance yesterday! Metro Atlanta for me (my #1 choice!)!! Very excited and can’t wait to connect with other corps members in my region. I went ahead and turned down my competing job offer today and decided to commit to TFA.

Congrats to the other accepted 3DL applicants! Good luck to the rest!

@rsm2009 congratulations! Metro Atlanta is my number one choice as well. What are you hoping to teach?

Congrats @rsm2009! 3 for 3 of the 3DL candidates accepted so far! I haven’t officially turned down my TNTP offer yet, but there is about a 99.8% likelihood that I will go with TFA. Mississippi Institute 2014!

@TFAHopeful29, the woman who I did my one on one interview with in Raleigh had been a corps member in Baltimore. It sounded like she had a great experience. $14,000 for certification is steep - is there a masters option there? If you can come out with a degree in two years the $14,000 isn’t terrible, especially in that part of the country. I stayed away from the northeast partly because of the higher costs associated, but mostly because I would die from the cold. I have very thin blood…

@paigeorose92 Thank you so much! I’m hoping to be able to teach Bilingual Education or ESL, so hopefully I will be assigned one of those–I will know for sure on Jan 9th! Best of luck to you! Let me know if you get assigned Metro Atlanta so we can start connecting!

@spedteacher84 Thank you!! Congrats to you too!

Congrats!

You’ve given me hope that the TF change does mean something!

Congrats @rsm2009! 3 for 3 and we all got our top 1-2 choices, which is pretty incredible.

@spedteacher84. The $14,000 is only for certification. An MA is closer to $20,000. It’s at John Hopkins, which is probably the reason for the steep price. However, since writing that post I have learned that the Baltimore school districts have very generous tuition reimbursement policies and I can use the Americorps award to offset the tuition assuming that continues to be offered. I keep hearing really great things about Baltimore and am definitely starting to lean toward TFA-Baltimore. I am scheduling a call with a current corps member this week and have a feeling that this call will finalize my decision!

Interesting-not sure why, but now that I have been accepted my TF status has gone back to under review.

This is awesome guys! Three for three and everyone getting great locations!

Also, my TF just went from complete to under review again?
