I just received an e-mail from admissions-noreply@teachforamerica.org entitled “Your Teach for America Interview” and my heart literally stopped and I went tachycardic for a good minute. I thought, oh boyyyyy, early rejection? I took a deep breath … opened the email and it said… “I am reaching out to remind you to complete your final interview day survey. We would love to hear more about your experience with our interview process. The deadline for submitting your survey is 11:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 18.”
Like, seriously! They could’ve put a better title for that! LOL… at least put “survey” in the subject line or something! hahahah. wowwww…
Hey everyone! I’m a little late to the party, unfortunately, however I was wondering, am I the only who’s documents haven’t been verified yet? (In terms of the need based funding…)
@beautysa From reading the threads through from previous years I didn’t fill out the funding forms because people seem to obsess over their verification. In the past the trend seemed to be if they were verified then you were accepted but it looks like TFA caught onto that and started verifying people who were and were not accepted and not verifying people who were and were not accepted. I would say not to worry about it as it is no longer an indicator and remember things update constantly on there.
@osutfa, I completely agree with this statement. I’ve been verified since last Thursday. Since TF is a separate department from admission, I’m wondering if they don’t just get a jump on verifying documents so that they are ready to award you IF you are accepted. For those that get verified later, maybe they reviewed and placed later. Sounds more efficient than TF funding just waiting for new hires.
@chellepepper From my understanding they accept or deny you at your final interview, so there’s STEP 1: Acceptance. They can not give you an award until you are placed, they state this on their website, because it depends on where you’re moving from to where, etc, etc., so there’s STEP 2: Placement. Then they decide your award based on your needs, so there’s STEP 3: Award. They use a computer algorithm to determine your placement, this I know from the website’s blog. Only problem I can see with your theory chelle, is that for the most part it seems like verification almost always equals admission, while no change whatsoever almost always equals denial. So, in conclusion: I REALLY don’t think TF is just waiting around for new hires, I am ALMOST certain we were accepted or rejected the day of our final interview, although I do think that TFA has caught on to us noticing the TF Status, as recently as the 4th DL this year it was STILL a VERY good indicator of acceptance or denial.
Thank you so much @osutfa it’s been a whirlwind with the entire thing honestly! I feel as though, if the documents aren’t up to par, now would be a better time to inform possible corp members than later? These are just my opinions. (can you sense the eagerness in my post Ha!)
I hope I am too. I REALLY DO, I’m seriously a bundle of nerves, especially because last deadline people’s “Under Review” Status started changing anywhere between midnight and 6 am the morning of notification and it just kept snowballing from there, that’s going to make it hard to sleep tomorrow night.
all of these speculations, stress, anxiety, etc will be OVER!!!
however, exactly 2 weeks ago from today, i was feeling nervous, anxious, yet confident for my final interview. i was very excited to teach my lesson plan and meet my interviewers and fellow interviewees. it is sad to know that my time with TFA will soon be over knowing that my TF has not had any changes or movement.
Fun fact: the guy who also created the google doc earlier this year was rejected. so, if i’m rejected, DO NOT start one! lol coz’ the trend may continue. lol.
regardless, it was an awesome learning experience and i shall try to reflect back on what i did and didn’t do for next year’s cycle (if i apply again). anyways, have a restful evening everyone and I hope everything will work in all of your favor. and, if you are unhappy about your placement or subject area, remember that others like me had wished to be in your position. so, take it, accept it, be glad you got offered, and run with it!
“if you are unhappy about your placement or subject area, remember that others like me had wished to be in your position. so, take it, accept it, be glad you got offered, and run with it!” Part of my sentiments exactly, thank you for sharing that. … I do notice many people complaining about placement (even though they dont place us outside of what we select lol) and subject after being accepted… like, I’m sure there were many who would LOVE to be in your shoes if given the chance. Also, I appreciate you making the document. Whatever happens on Thursday, I wish you nothing but the best. You seem like a nice person through the forum, and you know what you want. BEST WISHES @TFA5thDL2015
I’m not sure if any of you came across this article while researching TFA… but I’m interested in hearing your thoughts on the increasing pushback against TFA and the questioning of its morals and corporate background… This article honestly sums up why I have a feeling I’m not what they are looking for ( A MSW, Community Advocate/Organizer). Unfortunately, I didn’t come across this one until after I began the application process… It is kind of long, but even if you skimmed you would get the gist. Id love to dialogue… http://truth-out.org/articles/item/17750-teach-for-america-apostates-a-primer-of-alumni-resistance
@MoLoveMoGrowth I read and re-read this sort of criticism before deciding to apply. I think it’s helpful to see the big picture, to hear what people are saying out there. But, to me, it seems like this article is filled with half-truths and twisted facts. 1. TFA prides itself on recruiting diverse teachers from all sorts of backgrounds. 2. This blog post makes it sound as though most TFA teachers are harsh and uncaring. Do you really buy that? 3. As the article itself admits, many TFA-ers DO stay in education, including those who later turn against the organization to criticize it.
