I would say it’s not. For early applicants, the regional aspect is separate from our acceptance/rejection, so I imagine for you it’s the same. Only thing is, they need to streamline the process for you as they are handling thousands at a time and you have a much shorter window to accept/reject the offer, so they want to give you all your information at once (region, subject, transitional funding, etc).
@QueerUniDeer Thank you for getting back to me. I’m beginning to regret how I ranked my location preferences. I wish I would’ve been able to sit down with a recruiter for more than 5 minutes and talk out my options. It’s been quite overwhelming. I’m a low-income student, with zero familial support, and a very limited support system.
@JinxedKing Yeah, I’ve always felt it’s kind of hard to tell when I’m second guessing myself or if I seriously screwed up. Thank you for your kind words though, appreciate it. And yeah, hopefully I didn’t do too bad. I hope I would not have to go through the alternate routes of teaching and I’d hate it buuuuuut I guess everything in life can’t always work out >____<" Or somehow by some miracle, I’ll find better opportunities.
@tfaenbie I also regretted how I ranked my location preferences after submitting it. I think I thought too hard about it and I played it safeto some degree. I was super disappointed for the first couple of weeks, but now I’ve made my peace with it and I’m happy with the decision. It is definitely where I was meant to go teach! Hopefully you get to go where you would like to, but if you don’t, try and sit with it for a while and see how it feels after the initial shock goes away! Good luck! We’re almost there!
@HopingForTFA2019 haha that’s so ironic that you feel that you played it too safe. I’m the complete opposite. I was all “Yeeeeeahh, I put Cali as my first choice.” and now I’m all “Wait…what if I actually have to move to Cali?” hahaha. I was tired of my financial situation dictating my choices and I wanted to make an uninhibited decision (especially if I qualify for the transitional loan)…but maybe I should’ve been impulsive with anything other than potential employment lol.
Yo, in the same vein as what @tfaenbie is saying, would love to meet other low-income folks (possibly first-gen also) and talk about this as I certainly had a doozy picking regions because of that.
Has anyone who applied for the October deadline had their second online portal for the interview open up yet? I thought we were supposed to find out yesterday, so I’m confused.
@Rcb2019 The deadline page says you should find out today if you were invited to an interview. https://www.teachforamerica.org/how-to-join/deadlines
@Rcb2019 I did and I haven’t heard back either. Today is the deadline so I guess we just have to keep checking throughout the day.
Any October applicants hear anything yet?
I applied for the October deadline. I haven’t heard anything or received any emails yet, but the portal opened up for me to do the transcript set up and pre-interview activity around 3pm EST today.
Just got the interview invitation email!
Has anyone who applied for the first deadline received an email from a recruitment director about watching a video?
About a week after interviewing I was invited to a webinar. But I haven’t gotten an email today from TFA. I did get links to a few videos before my interview.
Also something I noticed, under my step three classroom and regional preferences. It still shows the deadline of 10/19/18. I didn’t have any special circumstances or training conflicts. Anyone else have this?
@JinxedKing Yes? Under my step three, besides each of the links (classroom preference. region preference) it still has the 10/19/18 deadline.
Is everyone else’s “Help with Expenses” portal open?
@tfaenbie Mine still says open. Also when I click transitional funding it says to complete by 12/7/18
@JinxedKing so our portals look the same essentially?
That is what it sounds like. Hopefully it’s good news for us both!
Mine is also open as well.
