On the website it says the teacher recs should be one from science/math and another from English/Humanities. Since my D didn't really catch this until this week and she's already got her two teacher recs lined up for all her other applications, how important is it that one is science/math? She has a teacher she can ask (she's a strong science student for a history/English kid) but her counselor advises it's too late and a lot to ask when the rec is only going to one school Any advice? Thanks!

I think you'll be fine. My D used recs from an English teacher and a History teacher and was admitted ED (class of 2010). There was a thread on this issue awhile back and, as I recall, others had similar experience as my D.

some of my friends here (I'm Wes '10) had two science recs... so I'm sure you'll be fine

My S was admitted RD (class 2010) with recs from a Science teacher and a Math teacher.

I'm thinking of applying to Wesleyan next year, but hell no I asking a rec to my English teacher (i really don't have a strong passion toward that class and im no bright student at that class) and no way I am asking my Science teacher (science is my worst subject)
Would I be able to ask my, say, Math and Spanish teacher instead?

Well, since math/science is one category and Spanish is a Humanities subject, a Math & Spanish teacher would seem to fit the criteria.

I just received the Wesleyan paper application in the mail today and noticed the "you are encouraged to submit one from a humanities or social sciences teacher and one from a math or science teacher" part as well.

I had a hard time finding any specific information on the Wesleyan website, so finding all the directions in the paper app. about a week after my school mailed my recommendations was kind of a surprise, lol.

I'm glad that it seems to be okay to have a History/English rec. combination, since that's what I have also. :)

However, I didn't put my Wes ID on the envelopes though, since at the time of my rec. request I didn't have one. Will this slow the processing of my application a lot? I put the two teacher recs. in one large envelope with the school form, so it should all stay together...?

This subject has come up for my son, who applied EDI (and just heard he is deferred). He got close to the application deadline and had letters from English and History teachers already in before he carefully read the materials and found out that they wanted a math/science letter. So he called the Admissions office to see how seriously they take this advice, and they said in no uncertain terms that they recommended that he get the science/math letter in to them right away. He did that, so he had three from teachers (along with one from his private cello teacher and one from an alumni friend of the family). So he had lots of letters, and he still did not get in.

Not sure what the message is in all of this, but the admissions dean he spoke to on the phone was quite clear about what they wanted, and that it would hurt him to not have the science/math letter. Given the other messages in this thread that seem somewhat contrary to what I am saying, I don't know if their policy has become more strict this year, or if the advice we got from the dean was BS.

I was worried about my lack of sci/math recs, so I ended up submitting an extra English rec on top of one from another English teacher and a history teacher. I mean, it would have been silly for me to submit a math or science one because, although I did well in those subjects, I didn't form much of a relationship with those teachers. (I got in EDI.)
