Temperature at Davis

How hot can Davis really get??? I hear that the temp can go up to 100 and can go down to about 30. Is that true? I live about a mile from the beach in SF so I’m not really sure.

It gets as high as 107 in the summer and down to the low to mid 40s in the winter at night.

You won't be at UCD during the summer heat unless you opt to take summer school there.

...or if you're going to summer advising =)...

Good point fooshy, hopefully everyone is hardy enough to survive a day and a half of advising....

I'm used to the heat, so for me, it won't be a problem. I'd much rather be near the beach, but I don't think that's that good of a reason to choose a school, lol.

The weather station at the Experimental Farm has recorded quite a range of temperatures over the past 80 years...from a blistering all-time high of 116 to a rather impressive (by CA standards) record low of 12 degrees. Davis can be hot in summer and early fall, but most people don't have classes then anyway and spend much of their time in cooler climes/air conditioned places. Winter mornings can be cold relative to coastal CA...occasionally dipping down into the 20s...but never bitterly cold. The weather really is pretty nice for much of the year, though. Annual highs and lows are more extreme than the averages mentioned here, but usually, one can plan on: lows generally 35-40 during the cold season and highs 50-60 (think San Francisco summer!), and summer/fall lows 45-55 and highs anywhere from 80-95. Just variable enough to make things interesting...

does does snow regularly during winters?

Snow has only been recorded a few times in the past 50 years in/around Davis...1974 and 1976 saw 1-2 inch "snowstorms." Other parts of the Valley have seen light snowfall more recently...particularly in 2003-2004. If one expects to spend 4 years at Davis one would have to be mighty lucky to see a single flake in such a short period, so to answer your question directly...no! Hail sometime falls during cold season thunderstorms...but again...it's more of a novelty than anything else. Coldest AM temps (20s and 30s) occur on clear nights...and usually are able to warm up to the 45-55 degree range in the afternoon even on the coldest of days. It's still California, after all!

I don't know about you but 20s is bitterly cold for me.
lol

I think it's funny that the name of the user giving us weather information is "cyclone2007"...

Winters can get really really cold for California standards. Although it's nothing like east coast weather, it does dip into the 30's.

It's surprising to see those pictures of snow in Davis. I never realized that it could snow there.

yeah really, i agree with bandislife... if it's like 40... i'm freezing
