DayKnight. I didn’t hear anything about merit scholarship either.
@adam2k17 my D just signed into the TU portal and clicked on something and there was a YouTube video that was pictured as “You’re Accepted” then below it said “Congratulations and Welcome to the class of #2021”. Then the packet came in the mail.
@OldCheermomDC Thank you. I’m so anxious to see their decision! I’ve been accepted into all of my other schools, and Temple is my first choice and they have made me wait the longest! I hope the wait is worth it in the end.
Good luck and I hope you do get in :">
My S was accepted and received his letter via the portal dated 1-10-2017. In the letter it stated he was a receiptant of the President’s Scholar full tuition scholarship. This was the best news we could receive at this time since I was laid off on 1-6-2017. Regardless to say lots of tears of joy. He is top 2% in his class, 1470 SAT/33 ACT and Acceptance to the Honors College. Now just waiting on other schools to release info but Temple is looking like a solid choice.
@bigbric, I don’t even know you, but I am so happy for you!
Congratulations @bigbric!
@bigbric that is tremendous news! Very happy for you and your son. My D is a freshman and loves it!
Thank you!
I’m not a freshman, but will be a transfer junior in fall of 2017. I applied via Temple’s website on Jan. 1, sent supporting docs around the 15th and got my portal acceptance Feb. 6! My gpa is 3.6, I had great letters of rec and what I would call a pretty good essay. I’m also on the board for one of our honor’s societies and a member of another. I know that i’ll get my acceptance letter in the mail in about a week, but if they were to offer me money based on merit, would that come with the letter? And do I need to file the fafsa prior to getting notification of merit award, or is that solely for need?
@philamk, No school can make you file the FAFSA in order to give you merit aid - although some make it sound like you can’t get merit aid until you file the FAFSA because they want you to file the FAFSA! My son’s acceptance came first and then merit aid came a week later in a separate letter that was first on the portal and then in snail mail. Some people waited much longer for merit after acceptance though. Call the admissions office and ask them how long a wait it will be. I have found the people in the office hit or miss, with most extremely helpful and pleasant to deal with. Don’t ask to speak to a particular person though or they get pissed and snippy.
Would be in the letter no FAFSA needed.
@philamk Congrats on your acceptance! Did you apply through the Temple Option?
Let me rephrase what I said above. My S found out that he was admitted a week before he found out about scholarship money THROUGH THE PORTAL. It said accepted a week before the letter was sent and then posted on the portal. This is why he knew of acceptance before he knew about merit money. So it is possible to hear about acceptance on the portal and not know about scholarship until the official acceptance letter is either posted on the portal or sent via snail mail.
Right now my portal says: “All required documents have been received … application is complete and awaiting a decision … may take more than 8 weeks during peak admission periods …” all that yada. Will it say anything before updating? Or will I just log on, and randomly it’ll say whether I got in or not? The wait is driving me insane and I regret waiting so long to apply to all my schools! Sorry for all the ridiculous questions but I know everyone understands the pain of waiting for a decision. (
you will just log on and randomly see you got accepted. I checked multiple times per day for over a month and it randomly popped up that I got in one day. @adam2k17
S checked a few times and one day saw a new button on the portal that said that he was accepted. No email came, just had to look on the portal. About 4 days later an official acceptance letter came in the mail. In the second or third paragraph of the letter is information about your particular amount of merit aid. A day or two later that exact letter was also posted on the portal. A few weeks later an email came that said you have been accepted. This email also had housing dates and logistics about housing.
@adam2k17 Thank you! if Temple Option means through the website and not the common app, yes! And there’s no sort of indication whatsoever about when you’ll get a decision, other than the portal saying “could take more than 8 weeks.” I put in my app online on Jan. 1, sending my last supporting docs around the 16th maybe. On Feb 6 I was accepted on the portal and they said my acceptance letter would come within a week. I don’t know why I got a decision so soon, but I hope the same for you!!
Also my being a transfer coming in as a junior may have something to do with the short wait time, or maybe it was just chance. Who knows! @adam2k17
