Same here. Daughter applied to Tyler. Also good stats. I’m wondering if they are waiting to pair the academic scholarships with the portfolio scholarships? We were told the portfolio scholarship deadline is 2/1.
@txmom0f3
I’m not sure. Admissions makes the decision about merit and the art program makes the decision about portfolio scholarships, so my understanding is that they are separate. But since they seem to be doing things a little differently this year, maybe they want to see who will be granted portfolio scholarships (which can be full tuition) before granting academic merit scholarships?
I did call admissions, noting the dates of my daughter’s acceptance and her program. Without looking her up specifically, I was told that Honors and merit would be revisited “at a later date.” No idea when.
Hoping the money works out as Tyler/Temple is currently my daughter’s top choice.
My daughter was notified of a small merit scholarship ($5,000 / year) yesterday. I am hoping that more will be forthcoming from portfolio scholarship or something else, because with her being OOS and given the differential tuition (where Tyler BFA has the highest tuition at Temple by a lot), this comes in a good $10K above our max budget (and other solid options).
D got the same $5k annually but we are in state. I was thinking it would be more, but I think submitting tests scores may have hurt her.
My daughter also heard about merit scholarships today. She got $14K per year (OOS), which we are happy about considering Temple hasn’t given great merit aid in the last few years. (My son only got $5K two years ago.)
@txmom0f3
Congratulations to your daughter!
Did your daughter submit SAT scores? I’m curious whether applying TO affected my daughter’s merit award.
Temple doesn’t look at rank, so maybe they are challenged to weigh GPAs in the absence of test scores?
Thank you! Yes, she did. Her scores were high for Temple. We asked ourselves the same question though for other schools. (She ended up submitting scores everywhere.) She does have a lot of extracurriculars too, which I am sure helped, leadership, sports, music, theater… super involved.
Anyone hear back from nursing?
Yes, took a long time. I’m not quite certain when she heard she was accepted, though it was recently. Just received an email yesterday to check her portal for a merit scholarship - $10K/yr, In-State.
Would you mind sharing stats?
GPA 3.5uw, 3.77w, mostly honors and AP courses.
Took SAT once, 1480 (740V, 740M)
My kid received a personal phone call yesterday from the Dean of Klein College congratulating her on her Dean’s Scholarship. They talked for about 5 minutes and he told her to call him back if she has any more questions (since she has his personal cell now, lol). This is the 3rd personal phone call she has received from someone at Klein since her Temple admissions process began. Nice touch Temple!
We visited klein last year and really liked it!
The biggest issue we have with Temple right now is that they will not be releasing their yearly costs and financial numbers until June. We had this confirmed by our admissions counselor. Temple becomes a financial gamble at that point, or at least becomes difficult to compare to schools that have already released that information or are about to very soon.
My son loves the school and the campus and has also enjoyed his interactions with all the representatives. However, this financial release policy has more than giving him pause. Temple does not have my son’s precise intended major but they were always at the top of his list for all the other factors he considered. Now, they have likely slipped to #2.
The Dean of Klein is pretty amazing. He is 100% dedicated to his students and the mission of Klein. He’s the reason my son applied EA to Temple. I’m so happy to read your experience. Thanks for sharing.
We have visited many large, well respected universities up and down the East coast. So far my kid has been blown away by her interactions with multiple Klein staff and students. With her Honors Program admittance it looks like TU has moved to the #1 spot on her list. Good luck to your son!

Wow! Very impressive stats! He will thrive at any school!
More important, he’s a pretty decent human. Just maybe, our kids will meet as part of the honors program!
