Temporary Housing Assignment?

So UF finally assigned me housing, but its a little funky.

They assigned me to a room with an RA, but said this is an temporary assignment and will be working throughout the year to get me a permanent place. Honestly, I’m actually really happy with this assignment, because they put me in a 2 room double (albeit I’m not 100% sure what that is) in the building I was hoping to be in. I was expecting to be stuck in a late application triple because of how late they are to assign me a room.

My main question is, has anyone else experienced this? And how fast are they usually about reassigning you to a new room?

There are articles on the overcrowding at UF and first group impacted were the RAs.

I was an RA at UF, and lived on campus throughout my 4 years. I graduated in 2014, so some things might have changed since I was a student. When in doubt, contact UF’s housing department for clarification.

Room assignments in the same room as an RA is temporary, and once a space opens up elsewhere, you’ll be reassigned to a different room. (In the same, or potentially in a different residence hall area) Keep in mind it is possible you may have to move out of your room to a different assignment 1 week, or even several weeks into the semester (they’ll give you ample notice I’m sure) when another space opens up. I’d recommend calling housing to receive clarification because how these handle RA roommate assignments may have changed since I was a student.

I’d say your living situation with the RA will be good. They are upperclassmen students who are very knowledgeable about UF’s campus, and very social.
