The College "Look"

I totally agree^^^

(I see it a lot too and I'm from Wash. too)

hollister and abercrombie needs to end already...some of the clothes are so awful and people will buy anything that has the brand on it...and the stores themselves are creepy with blasting emo or techno music, low lighting, cramped, cold, stench of cologne and perfume, and pictures of half naked guys in the men's section

^somebody call the waaaaammmmmbulance

lemme guess...you are wearing one of those yellow mustard colored hollister shirts and jesus sandals

I don't get why people get so worked up over other people wearing expensive clothing. So what if it's a waste of money? It's not your money, and it's not your problem. By complaining about it, you just seem jealous. Style and fashion are so subjective it's not even funny. I personally wear what I want to wear, and don't really care what others choose to put on (unless it's cute and I want the same thing :)) and I think other people should do the same.

I love it when it's freezing outside and see girls wearing their nice pea coat, scarf, and gloves, but no winter hat or ear muffs. I mean, I dig the rosy cheek look, but your head is freezing. Literally.

Buy expensive clothing when it's worth it. I mean A&F, to me, will never be a clothing brand I would were. Why? It's overpriced and I feel like I'm conforming. It's not even preppy. Even if I did have money I wouldn't even buy from that store.

Princessbell...it's not about getting worked up because the clothing is expensive. I have incredibly expensive clothing tastes, I'll admit it. However, Hollister ISN'T classy. It's not that cute. And in all honesty, it's not that expensive. It's just overworn. Price isn't the issue here.

The best part of the I'm-So-Stylish-Because-I-Wear-Hollister-Phenomena? People actually think they're preppy. What a joke. :)

^I wear Hollister sometimes, but I definitely don't think it's preppy. I wear it because the t-shirts are comfortable and fit well. I'm very slim, so I have trouble finding clothes that fit me well. I definitely wouldn't buy anything that cost too much either. The t-shirts cost no more than $15-20. I wouldn't buy a shirt from them that cost $40.

I agree with ibellibie. abercrombie and hollister are the phoniest brands ever created.

A lot of people at my school wear f c u k clothes.
Of course the occasion fad hits everyone so all the girls (and some of the metro guys) will continue to wear those hideous ugg boots (seriously, they are very ugly!).
Good God... guys wearing ugg boots. I would never rag on someone else's clothing choices but I hope this doesn't spread to the west coast. Around here I see a lot of cargo shorts. Also quite a few people with Abercrombie plastered on their chests.

I usually wear jeans and a t-shirt with a hoodie over it. Or some adidas warm up pants depending on where I'm going after class. I like stuff with cool designs on it and I like buying stuff secondhand.

Monday-Thursday I really don't care about what I wear unless I have plans to go out. Friday-Sunday I don't dress in a hoodie and sweatpants like the other days.

The brands I wear are: Express, Banana Republic, Lucky Brand, GAP, American Eagle (Clothes from high school. Every time i wear it I feel like i'm in high school so i just wear it mon-thur under the hoodie. When I walk outside I don't want people to see me as a high school student.), North Face, Nike, Club Monaco, and Hugo Boss.

I guess I like spending money on clothes. Is it because I'm shallow? To some extent yes.

my look is the preppy polo look but look on The Princeton Review. For example, Wake Forest or other schools on the east coast has this preppy polo look going on. At my school, it's more of anything goes, but there are times where I just don't care and put on sweats esp. when I'm studying for an exam.

Anything goes in college, but what you wear can "define you" to some extent - ie. logo whores, varsity athletes (always in team clothing), stoners (lots of those hemp poncho things), commerce students (always in suits), etc. Most people, however, just wear jeans and t-shirts on a normal day.

As far as labels go, I will shop in stores like Abercrombie but I refuse to buy any shirt with a huge logo across the front. I don't mind a little animal symbol on the side or the chest (for polos), but brand names... I don't go there. A&F pants actually fit me pretty well, and I'm sure all the girls know how hard it is to find the right fit in jeans, so why not? I've never been to a Hollister though... I don't think I've seen one in Canada.

I shop around... I like to save some money for when I travel so that when I shop I don't always have the same things as half the girls on campus. At home, I have a lot of GAP and AE for basics. I also like H&M and Urban Outfitters. Aritsia (which I think is only in Canada?) is great for hoodies, Lululemon (also Canadian) for yoga/workout stuff (and yes, I actually do yoga, so I'm not just a logo-whore). I try not to buy stuff that is too trendy (say, neon skinny jeans? or all that gold 80's stuff that is coming back?) but I like to look good. As I said before, if I'm going to buy something really expensive then it's going to be when I'm travelling (this mostly ends up being accessory-type things though - coats, bags, shoes). It's more fun that way.

Nobody is answering the "Girls what look do you like on guys? specific look for a specific group?
Guys, same question." question.

Some girls do too much make up. Put on just enough to get rid of a few blemishes here and there but don't use the eyeliner so much. Also, for girls who are overweight, you can still look nice. Try to avoid shirts that are small and force you to pull down your shirt every now and then because it's pulling up. It just makes you look more fat.

Guys seriously posting about what they wear and even listing brands is extremely comical. No one cares.

The worthwhile question here is how I'd like girls to dress.

As the great Robert Anson Heinlein wrote in "Glory Road" (I'm paraphrasing); "The outfit has failed if the guy doesn't want to rip it off."

Clothes are weird. Why can't people just wear what they look good in and not worry about people being 'phony' or anything. I happen to be a regular person who wears hollister sometimes because it looks good on me, but is just as likely to go to school in a vintage dress or coat and sweater. I feel comfortable in my style and know it's flattering on me. That way I won't worry about what I wear when I go to college because why change a style that works? Maybe the world would be better if no one wore clothes...lol

I'm at NYU. I wear a lot of the preppy stuff (popped collars, rugby shirts, khaki pants, etc) but it's not me being pretentious, I just dress that way. It looks good on me firstly, and usually it's difficult to mess up a khaki pants-polo shirt-sweater combo, unless you're completely blind. It's easy. That's a requirement since I often wake up a half an hour before class, then I shower, then I have 5 minutes to get dressed before I leave. I'm quite conscious of the way I look even though I'm a guy, so it usually takes me a good 10 minutes to get dressed. But it requires very little thinking to throw on some jeans and a polo shirt. You can't mess it up.

I just go to places like TJ Maxx and Filenes (NYC) and pick up brand-name stuff for very little money. Like $10 for a polo shirt very little.

probably best suggestions is to go to outlets and buy it cheap instead of wasting so much money

god i love this quote: "The outfit has failed if the guy doesn't want to rip it off."
