hollister and abercrombie are annoying becuz they remind me of middle school (basically all I wore, having just graduated from limited two)... Hollister is signature prep. It just is. There is nothing other than prep in that store. I try to dress "smart" for whatever a situation may call for. My wardrobe consists of items ranging from lucky, armani xchange, seven, true religion, rocknrepub,(yes) abercrombie, to many many items from thrift stores and discount stores. I hope to one day be over my desire to purchase designer items.

Hollister isn't prep, nor does it brand itself as 'prep'. It's supposed to be relaxed California style. California itself is pretty much the antithesis of prep. Abercrombie is preppier than Hollister, but still isn't really 'prep' at all. Real prep is J.Crew, Brooks Brothers, Polo Ralph Lauren, Vineyard Vines. The original stuff.

add in lacoste to real prep

who cares??!! Wear whatever you wanna wear!

<<exactly
who cares?
wear what you like.
I usually don't like A&F/Hollister, but once in a while they'll have a cute top or a skirt that I like and I'll get that....but I'm not an a&f clone...I mix it with stuff from everywhere. One of my fav outfits is a&f shorts, tights, and a sweater from UO with some anthro flats.

I live in Boston so in order to shop I have to save up quite a bit.

Wrentham is nice during Black Friday which is tomorrow. I'm going to be hitting Banana Republic and Hugo Boss

i go to NYU soo people tend to be a little more fashion conscious...i like to wear ( (dark Denim is in) Rock and Republic, Joe jeans, 7 jean. shirts i like ed hardy ruehl, Ralph Lauren. I also bought alot of hoodies this year...i think they are pretty in.

I love people who think Abercrombie and Fitch clothes are expensive. Come to USC and see what the people wear here. :)

I want to slap the girls who dress like they're going out clubbing for class. I recognize that GW students have a lot of money and like to flaunt that fact, but some of us are perfectly content wearing jeans or sweatpants and a t-shirt. Emulating Mary-Kate Olsen for your 9:35 French class isn't going to make you any better than those of us who aren't up two hours ahead of time straightening our hair in the communal bathroom.

I went in Ruehl for the first time today, and it was horrible. I couldn't even focus on the clothes because there were way too many distractions. First there was this creepy guy at the door begging me to try their fragrance (even though he didn't even have any samples), then all these weird looking gay guys followed me around offering to help with something. It was even worse because it was supposed to be shaped like an apartment or something, so everything was boxy and small and confusing, and the randomly placed supermirrors didn't help. I won't be shopping there very often...

do people ever wear sweatpants?

^
Yeah, all the time. Really though, in college you can wear whatever you want.

I see no point in buying expensive clothes. Maybe it's because I'm really picky in what I buy, so even if they're cheap, they still look nice. I do wear jogging pants and a t-shirt/sweatshirt often. Like most, I also wear jeans a lot... I overcame my hypersensitivity to denim last year. I stopped wearing khakis.

The clothes make the man. Fortunately where I go to school, the clothes are generally covered by several layers of winter outerwear.

Yes it will....lol

Believe when I tell you guys notice the "hot/dressed up" girl in the room lol....

I've always thought those geeky, soft-felt black 'artist hats' that you see artists in paris wearing pretty well describes the 'college look.'

the girls that go "hot/dressed up" to class aren't normally that hot so they must work harder at looking good...some overdo it with the make up and such

Well, I'm not trying to pick up guys in class, (I'm there to, you know, Learn) so I don't feel the need to dress up for it. If I do go a little dressy, it's generally just because I woke up early enough to actually do makeup and stuff instead of rolling out of bed 10 minutes before I have to catch the bus. I'm wearing a cute top today, mostly because my clean long sleeved tops are kinda cute and it was cold and wet today thus requiring long sleeves.

^^you can say the same about almost everywhere you go except maybe (bars, clubs, parties). I see girls dressed up to got to the mall (just to go shopping). Most of the time the places you meet your "bf/gf" is not going to be in a bar or club but in (class, gym, etc) the places where your expecting to get the least attention.

Some girls just care about their appearance no matter where they go... aka (hot girls) lol

Have you ever seen most of those "hot girls" without makeup though? Usually, it's not pretty, or at least nowhere near AS pretty. If a guy is going to date me, he needs to like what he sees when I'm not wearing makeup because that's the real me. Makeup is supposed to enhance what you've already got, not cover up nastiness. And I'm not going to wear it if we're in bed or just hanging out or whatever.

Guys don't have to wear makeup so we always get to see their natural faces and know for sure that we do or don't like what we see. Guys are unfortunate in the fact that they could get a total skag who cleans up nice but is actually not that cute at all under all those layers, or they could go for the natural makeup-less girl who's kinda pretty even though she's bare-faced and when she's dressed up looks even prettier.
