The ever popular chances... EDII

Hey everyone. I want to apply Vanderbilt EDI, but if I do not get in I want an EDII. Colby is now one of my top choices for this. I want to go pre-med with a major in biochem/chem and a minor in psychology. Thank so much for your time and input in advance!

(This is the most rigiorous course load of anyone else in my class this year, b/c only me any one other person are taking Pre calc and Calc in the same year, and the first to do so in many years. Also, those with hard scedules like mine don't do a varsity sport and a job.)

(I will do everything in my power to make all A's Sr. yr. -- if I do, I will be Salutatorian)
(Also note: Junior yr lowest grade is 97 [only made that low once].. not sure if that counts for something)
-This gives me a total of 11 Honors or above honors courses.

-Will have a total of 5 sciences and 5 maths by end of next yr.

-Varsity Swimming three yrs... and won a school record.

-Job over summer and Sr yr

-TN Governor's School 2006 (I completed two college level courses. History of Tennessee (HIST 2030) and Historical Geology (GEOL 1050) and recieved an A in both.)
-TN Volunteer Girls State Delegate (won and elected a Senator's position [only 20 awarded out of 500+ girls])
-Clubs by end of next yr will include: Mu Alpha Theta, National Honors Society, Student Council, Historical Society, Thesbian, Science, Beta, Beta Epsilon

-ACT score: First time = 27, Second time = 27 too! Everything went up several points but science, which for some reason plumated. Hopefully a 30 in Oct. I'mma get a ACT tutor and study like no other.

-In addition, I got the lead role in a theatre preformance in Drama, and am hoping to be equally as lucky in the upcoming Musical this year.

-Volunteer at a Nursing Home, but not the typical 100+ hours yet... I'm working on it. So little time anymore. Only like 12 right now >.<

-I'm good at essays, so counting on essay to be good. (If I could ever get started)
-Student of Month twice, Soph & Junior academic award, etc.
-Major: I want to go pre-med, w/ a major of Chemistry and a minor in Psychology.

Note: I know my AP's are low, but our school only offers 5 and others conflicted with my schedule. Also, there is no 3rd foreign lang. offered at my school... not enough people sign up for them.

Thanks!!

Should be a cake walk! What a fine record.
Just make sure you keep those grades consistent senior year, don't worry too much about volunteering at the nursing home if that will possibly endanger your grades.
Our daughter, who was accepted RD at Colby and a number of other schools, reduced her volunteer hours senior year because of competing demands. Schools understand. Remember that your academic record is always the most important piece of your application, whatever anyone says about the well-balanced individual.
Best of luck!

Wow, thank you so much! You've really lifted my spirits. Unfortunatly, I do think that is what I'm going to have to do on the volunteering aspect. My demanding schedule this year is simply leaving me no time for any extras. & I can only hope that the colleges are understanding about it, but I don't really have any other options. Thanks again for the reply! I hope your daughter is happy at whatever school she chooses!

Anyone else have anything to add? It would really be appreciated.

Unfortunate that your school doesn't offer the third year of a foreign language. Make sure your guidance counselor states that a third year of a foreign language was not available.

See below: from Colby Website
To ensure a common educational base, a minimum of 16 academic preparatory units is strongly recommended, including four years of English, at least three of a single foreign language, three of college preparatory mathematics, two of history or social studies, two of laboratory science, and two years of other college preparatory electives.

Thanks so much for that. I will be sure to call the admissions department tomorrow to make sure that I can still even apply. Thanks again!
