Well....I have taken literally a "double senior year" and well over a full year of HS.

My AP scores are a mix of 5s and 4s but also a few 3s. I got a 3 in Biology (10th) but a 750 on the Bio E SATII (?)odd...I guess because it was in 10th grade..

anyway...what are your comments on this "transcript" since THIS...not test scores or AP scores is the PRIMARY concern at Harvard...according to them

I got A's in all classes except for one B (of the 3 A's) in AP Chem and a B in language (of the 3 A's every other quarter)

Why don't you edit your post and add the score next to each individual test?

Hey guys will my SATII subject tests help me any from my....HORRID SATI? I mean...I got a 750 on the Bio E...is that not worth any merit...especially from my rural school? Also, 660s....are they really THAT terrible? No one has commented on my SATIIs.

AP scores...according to them are really not taken into much consideration because they do not require them. I heard of someone on an older CC board who got into Harvard with a 2 and a 1 so I am not worried about 3s.

On Harvard's website, SATII's between 600-800 are seen as competitive. However, I am assuming that you are going against other Puerto Ricans and Hispanics; therefore, your goal most likely will be to outscore those individuals.

hey...also...my writing SATI is a 560 junior year..but my ACT writing is a 30? I don't get it!

Well, assuming that you took the SATI, there will be a writing section and as long as that is 600+, I wouldn't worry. The ACT Writing section is a joke. (Though I am biased because my essay went from a 10 to an 8 on my last test... :))

Honestly, if I get in it would be based on the difficulty of mys schedule and the diversity that I bring...not just meaning Puerto Rican...but a "fervent hispanic leader" as my recs said. They may get many hispanics/Puerto Ricans that score higher but do they have the same vigor and cultural embracing desire that I have? Because of the extremely small applicant pool of Puerto Ricans I think that this will actually become a big factor...wouldn't they rather admit a puerto rican that is energetic, active and oh so willing to work in several harvard organizations than one that is rather reticent/reserved with better scores and not as difficult of a schedule and not as impressive recs?

and again...this is hypothetical...I am just saying this because they want to admit the most active and energetic freshmen class of course in addition to academics......

Don't you agree?

Huh? I got a 10 on the ACT writing essay and a 30 on the MC? What is this? IS this over the 600 mark?

I had never heard about "online" AP classes until about a month ago on this board. How did you all hear about them?

go to flvs.net YOU would have to pay but if ya live in FL it is free!

Well the thing is...you're competing against other Hispanic leaders too. I am Hispanic and I was President of my class my freshman and sophomore years, student body Vice-President my junior year, and student body President my senior year. While you do have leadership, many other Hispanics will also have various leadership positions in organizations as well. My example (along with another organization I am involved with) shows just one person's credentials.

While embracing the Hispanic culture at school is an amazing thing to do, many others (most likely) have done the same thing on various levels as well.

On the topic of a difficult schedule, you probably won't find too many applicants who have NOT taken the most rigorous courseload. Your ability to take additional AP courses in your free time is a great way to show your passion for learning. If I had time to take additional classes, I most likely would have investigated that option; but with two varsity sports, clubs and the most rigorous courseload that MY school offers, taking additional courses, for me at least, was never an option.

So, in all honesty, I don't know how much taking a plethora of AP classes will help in comparison to other applicants. My guidance counselor checked the "most demanding" schedule too.

When I mean leadership I do not mean simply leadership positions. It is your attitude...did you approach the interviewer with passion and burning vigor? Were you forceful and clear about declaring your ambitions and desires. Did you take the initiative about researching organizations that you want to be a part of that may be a continuating of the work you have done. You need not a leadership position to be a leader...of course it would help though :). Also, you need great accolades in recs...are you a ground/barrier breaking leader....have you beem ranked the best president or what not? Have you changed your school or left a huge impression on the faculty or student body at your school? it is not position but actioN!

I never "researched" my leadership position. I began my involvement in the organization (Student Council/Government) in the 4th grade when I was elected Class President. Being involved and making a difference at my school has always been something that I've done; it has never been something that I have done because I felt I HAD to. I've held a leadership position in this organization for 7 years now, but only my high school tenure will be known by colleges.

My passion for this organization has elevated me to both a district position in the Texas Association of Student Councils as District 18 President (last year), and District Past-President (this year...),both board positions. Community service is a big focus of our organization and we are state-recognized "Outstanding Student Council".

So yes, I would say my organization leaves an "impression". :)

And on the interviewer issue...we talked about what I did in school, etc. The interviewers became aware of the fact that while balancing sports and school, I also have time to devote towards my other passion - the organizations I am involved in.

COOL!:) I hope your recs illuminated this accomplishment! No no not researched leadership positions but organizations that you really want to join at Harvard. Really, while leadership matters, I think that I you make clear a vigorous and confident hispanic that WILL have a say at harvard ...then you are probably in...assuming awesome greats/involvements and decent scores.
