The Indian Thread #19

Lol. Yeah, kinda true.

Btw, how many of you have had alumni interview offers yet?

I’ve had only one and that too from MIT (which interviews everyone) so I’d like to know if I should be worried at all.

Which ivies offer alumni interviews in India? (all?)

I know pton does
cornell doesn’t (for engg, that is)

rest of 'em ??

^ Harvard.

^ ^ Any Ivy that has an Alumni Club in India can offer alumni interviews. This doesn’t mean they necessarily will, however.

Princeon does , they sent me a mail saying they would soon contact me for an interview, dunno when though.
which other colleges offer interviews(non-ivy league)?

Northwestern, CMU, Penn= interview.

Do the following colleges have interviews in New Delhi, India?

University of Chicago
Washington University in St. Louis
Northwestern University
University of Pennsylvania
Vanderbilt University
Cornell University
Carnegie Mellon University
University of California: Berkeley
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign: No
New York University
University of California: Los Angeles

Wesleyan University
Middlebury College: Yes

^You have to express interest in alumni interviews for University of Chicago on their website, and you had to do so by January 6th. So that’s a no.
And Aniruddh just answered your question for CMU, Northwestern, and Penn in the previous post.

Damn! I never knew about the UChicago thing. I was wondering what happened to the option. Will it hurt my chances of getting in. I had my pre-boards anyway. And any idea if the interview was on the phone or not?

It doesn’t hurt your chances, they realize that it’s impossible to interview every candidate so it doesn’t affect your decision much. Me and my friend only realized the Jan 6th thing last week too, so that was a bit of a downer.
All the alumni interviews I’ve heard of are face to face. I haven’t met anyone who’s had a US interview over the phone.

Hey i applied to both Penn and CMU however i was not contaced for an interview in either of these colleges unlike Princeton or MIT where they sent me a mail informing me about a interview

Patience my friend… Patience

Penn will interview in February.
Both colleges will approach you.

University of Chicago= as arunemo said
Washington University in St. Louis = dunno
Northwestern University = yes
University of Pennsylvania = yes
Vanderbilt University = dunno
Cornell University = no
Carnegie Mellon University = yes
University of California: Berkeley = no
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign: No
New York University = dunno but no as far as i know
University of California: Los Angeles = no

Man whats with every college getting record applications this year. Brown and upenn got over 30 k + applications

Forgive me, but I have a certain measure of contempt for State Boards. I suppose the rigor of the curriculum varies from state to state, although in my state it’s anything but tough.

The more relevant question is how many Indians applied.

^ I’m sure there must be a proportionate increase in the number of Indian applicants. But my guess would be like 500+ applicants to HYP each.

^That’s hardly a large number. The people in charge of reading the applications from India will probably be done in 3-4 days, or maybe less, since many Indians apply for the sake of it, and are rather easy to weed out.

Haan Manno, ladke ne Harvard aur MIT ko apply kiya!

^This is why college admission offices even get 500 apps in the first place.

Ivys etc have regional admissions officers who are really good at spotting BS and as far as I know, they do have a set quota for admission of Indians. HYPSM is around 10, Penn/Cornell is around 30-40 and last year atleast, Brown admitted 60 Indians.

Okey dokey. That’s your opinion.

You should know that Uttar Pradesh Board is like a slow painful death.

Also, during college admissions time, Delhi newspapers are filled with articles on how difficult state board students find it to enter Delhi University since there is so much more grade deflation there and their scores don’t match those of their CBSE companions.
