To the UC bound folks: Found this as I was comparing AP/IB credits.

Hey guys. I found this online : [Academic Index Calculator Hernandez College Consulting, Inc. and Ivy League Admission Help](http://www.hernandezcollegeconsulting.com/academic-index-calculator/)
What do you think? Complete BS or is it credible?

idream, it is just based on stats. I think it can be useful to see if you are in the running for a spot. I think everyone on CC will get an AI of 9 on that calculator ;)

For those interested in the AI calculator, here is College Confidential’s take on it

Gosh. Modern School, barakhamba road, sent 5 kids from their school alone to Yale in 2011.
It makes me think that me has no chance at yale against feeder school :(

I agree with the dean’s analysis of the academic index. It oversimplifies a highly subjective and long process into an overtly objective estimation.

Also rew, abandon such thoughts. I could argue that feeder schools, by definition, send more students to a particular college and would thus create a definable and high standard in the eyes of the admissions committee of that college. This would make it more difficult by increasing self-selectivity and competition among students applying from that school. :)

College is becoming a reality now :)

I’m wondering if I should apply for my Visa in the first week of June or the first week of July. Haven’t decided yet. I hate so much regulation, and I won’t admit it but it finally makes my life easier ;)

Tizil, refering to your post that posted some days ago, if a college claims to be need blind FA (HYP), will applying for full aid to that college will still be drawback because they might not be what they claim to be? Will it reduce the chances?

Also, according to your last post, so, what difference will it make on the non-feeder school? Like, how will i be compared to those feeder-school kids?!
Yale is My first choice and i would do anything to get in
i might sound desperate but thats the truth :/

Oh right, no rew. Sorry, forgot about that. I’m flooded by so much work :/

Anyway, I think someone explained it up above with the example of Cornell. And no, I know for a fact that HYPM+Dartmouth+Amherst are in fact, completely need-blind for internationals and meet full need of admitted students.

Also, I think I said this before, but beware of “need-aware” colleges such as Columbia where 77.6% of the undergraduates don’t receive one cent in financial aid. It’s not that I have something against Columbia. It’s just that the student body there is very vocal about this in their newspaper.

Finally, after the ACT score mishap, I am done with standardized tests :D

@Tizil - if you are still waiting for Columbia, delay applying for your Berkeley visa. I am sure July would be fine. I think you only have to get here by mid-August.

Tizil is already accepted at Columbia( I thought someone should announce it
).

Let the thread die Mrinal :p

^Not everyone is as great as you :p. Someone needed to say it. ![]()
All the Best to the 16’ers and to the Cal people, I hope to see you there next year. ;)

Well…hope you all '16 folks check back in August/September to confirm your matriculation and let us know how things work out…Good luck to all !

Woohoo! Congratulations Tizil, that’s awesome
:D

Congratulations Tizil. Hope you enjoy Columbia.

Thanks guys, but I’m still sticking with Cal :)

I can see why Tizil7 did not want to disclose…
I actually know 2 kids from Bay area who are opting for Berkeley Engineering over Columbia. So not unusual to hear this.

I don’t know if kids from California choosing Berkeley should be considered the same as OOS. For onething, it is a LOT cheaper to go instate.

^I am sure money was a big factor for those kids. My point is not to second guess a decision already made by someone and also to say, that Berkeley Engineering is full of kids who have rejected other top colleges (including Ivies). At the end of the day, it is what you do and how you avail of the opportunities is what is going to shape your future.
