Hello! Are you taking the Sub SATs this weekend too?

Pretty tense…got loads of essays to work on…math 2 this week…
plus im an ivy aspirant and in need of aid so im starting to think chances are pretty slim…haha :/

[Literature Subject Test - SAT Subject Test in English Literature Practice Questions](<a href=“The SAT – SAT Suite | College Board”>The SAT – SAT Suite | College Board)

Free Downloadable Practice Resource

IRBCobalt Check this if you have not already…

yup, i am. i took literature in october though…i used the kaplan book

Thank you @anialways! I already have this link though. And aren’t the collegeboard tests supposed to be easier than the real test?
@shrey- Oh. how did it go? Were the Kaplan tests easier than the SAT test? And all the best for the Math II :)

well, english is my strength so it was pretty good…i got a 780. no i wouldnt say the kaplan tests are easier…so only difference is they ask you a lot about the types of passages n poems (eg is the poem a sonnet/ballad/ode/whatever) and the format, rhyme scheme n stuff… whereas on the real test practically all the qsns were passage based, like critical reading

Thank god for that! My CR qs always go worse than identification ones. And how much were you averaging on the Kaplan tests? Thanks a lot for letting me know I feel less stressed!

And CONGO on the scores :D

i would average somewhere in the 700s…
umm, wait. if you do worse on cr type qsns…wouldnt that be bad news for you? cuz thats what i said the real test is like… or was that a mistake? :P

haha…thank youu :)

Uh-oh. I read it opposite-ly. Sigh. Hmm hopefully mine won’t be too bad, im getting 680-760 right now
So hows ur prep for the math going? :)

@shrey228 welcome!!Are u done with ur SAT reasoning test?Which programs are u looking for in the US?

dont worry then…youll do okay
@mitboundmeche- hey:) yup im done with sat1…2260…i want a proper allround liberal arts education, as cliched as that sounds :)

@shrey228 It isin’t a cliche to a desensitized ear as mine.Anyways 2260 rocks!great score!A score as high as that makes ur quest easier.

not at the ivys it doesnt…most need loads of ecs…which i have but none too spectacular or unique anyways what abt you?

I’m a lib arts applicant too! My SAT 1 SUCKED: 2140. Don’t know about the ECs…i have a couple of international essay prizes and a national science prize…thats it for int/national stuff. There are lots of school ECs but don’t know whether they matter as much!
I don’t think you should worry though!Your SAT score is great! Congo again
And how come you’re only applying to the Ivys for LA? There are lots of non-Ivy colls which are in the top lists for LA colls.

no its not just the ivys, a few others too…the top la cols are even harder to get into!
intnl essay prizes ought to be impressive! where do u want to go?

I’m thinking Williams, Wellesley, Amherst.
I hope so! It’s actually the same competition, I’ve been participating since 2006. I was the runner up in 2008 and got a Bronze prize this year. the 2006, 2007 prizes are too far back .
What are your top choices?

Cobalt, since you are thinking about LA colleges, Oberlin’s another one to think about. It’s not as good as Amherst but can act as your safety. I know because Oberlin visited my school.

I am surprised at the lack of applications to Tufts.

My top choice has to be MIT. I think it’s partly because I had to leave JEE preparation mid-way. Now I am not even eligible for Indian Colleges. Well I am … but it will be quite a hassle.

Plus, D&D and Tennis, I can help you guys out with comparison if you want I have studied under both the CBSE system and take AP and IB classes. Both are equally good though each has it’s advantages over the other. Just a small example:

Math: AP Clac BC = IB Higher Level 2 Math << CBSE Grade 11 and 12 Math << JEE Math

Economics: IB Econ HL > AP Micro/Macro Econ > CBSE Econ

English: AP Lit > IB English Higher Level = CBSE English

Chemistry: AP Chem < IB Higher Level 2 Chem < CBSE Chem < JEE Chem

Physics: IB Higher Level Physics < AP Physics B/C < CBSE Phsyics << JEE Phsyics

I don’t know about other subjects since I haven’t studied them in either system. I think being in VMC Reg does afford a certain authority to the comparison of JEE questions with others. Also, studying CBSE in both 11th and partly in 12th again gives me some experience. Aaaaand… I am doing both IB and AP classes at this moment. So there you go.
I hope you don’t take this as biased as I have had the opportunity to solve questions from all three systems and still do :D

^ Oh no, please don’t mock her based on that. AP Calc still remains one of the strongest if not the strongest math curriculum in the US and that’s what colleges look at. Rigor of syllabus within the prescribed curriculum.

That is, she can get accepted to her choice of universities even if she “kills the class as mere flies in the face” and similarly, me or you could be accepted even after getting say 85% in 11th CBSE math because that is a somewhat respectable percentage considering the rest of the class. It’s relative, you see? :)

EDIT: My ranking is based solely on difficult of questions. It does not factor in quality of school, quality of teachers, class size, and so many other important factors. Just to make the mood light again, I’ll relay a small anecdote. A few weeks ago, I asked my math teacher, the HOD of math, to solve the following:

integrate ( sqrt(tanx) )

He was stumped. And this can be considered a really standard question in CBSE Grade 12 Math.

The other side to this coin is that most of CBSE is just rote learning and I have seen very few if at all any students trying to understand the actual math behind it. Whereas in AP/IB understanding is the norm and students are given formula booklets during the test to refer to any and all formulae.
