I was thinking about that! I can pop into Joanne Fabrics with the hat once I’m healed enough to go out in public. Or one of these; most partial to the second.
I like hats with UPF 50 by San Diego Hat Company! They are easy care and travel well. Amazon sells them and so does Nordstrom. I’m all for either modifying an existing hat or getting a neutral color hat like beige or white and adding a ribbon.
The ribbon idea is great! I like the second one too, Marilyn. Then you don’t have to worry so much about the color of the hat matching exactly - that can be tricky.
I would feel like one of the Bennett sisters, trimming an old hat to refresh it.
Aside from hat discussion: I stopped by JCPenneys recently to see if they had a dress I admired online. Not usually a JCPenney’s shopper, and there are none near our home (most have closed), but we were in the vicinity of one on another errand.
Long dress selection was very limited, and alas not the dress I considered. However, if anyone else is looking for a cover-up, they had a lot of options in multiple colors (lace , bolero style ‘jackets’, sheer wraps, etc.). I may re-visit once I have a dress (if sleeveless), to try them on with the dress. It might be just that particular store, or timing, but posting in the event others might be considering sleeveless dress options, and looking for a cover-up.
I was also surprised at the shoe selection. Some major brands, some on clearance. Decent pricing. Nice surprise.
Great tip. LOTS of bolero/shrug options online, good deals

I recently ordered three purple boleros/jackets from Amazon, to wear with my MOG floral dress if it gets cool in evening. Of course it was the most expensive one that I liked best - kept it (at least for now) and returned the other two.

It comes in 17 colors, in case anybody else is looking for a particular color.
Sorry, briefly back to hats. I was thinking of scarves and totally forgot I have this one. Eureka! There’s a blue tone that exactly matches the dress. And if it’s chilly and sunny and I have to wear my extremely old raincoat, another great match and pulls the dress and coat together. Plus the bridal color is teal so win-win. My job is done.
Perfect…because my next suggestion was actually going to be a scarf…and what you have is very close to what I imagined.
Perfect! And you know it’s a hat you can wear!!
Two thumbs up!!
Perfect combos!
This conversation came in very handy yesterday. My niece is getting married in September.
I saw this dress and ordered for myself.
It came in a petite, yesterday it was 25% off although I paid $17 for shipping. I liked that it’s dressy but casual and I like the sleeves.
My mother in law wanted a pants suit to wear as grandma of the bride. She’s 87 and was 5’ tall at best. At one time. A dressy pants suit in a petite? That’s a tall order. We ordered these 2 options. I kinda insisted on 2 because 1)petites sell out 2)I didn’t want to keep trying to find things in her size and 3)it was $150 for free shipping. I’ll send back the one that doesn’t work out.
These are the two options
This in peacock
I would have never thought of Dillard without this thread! So thanks. I’m hoping one of these pantsuits works out.
I was looking at those Sundance dresses yesterday (also some by Johhny Was) and wishing someone here was still trying to get dressed. Yay, @Deb922!
@deb922 - that Sundance dress is so pretty! I really like the filmy, floaty overlay look!
Cute pantsuits for GOB! I favor the first one because of the delicate, scalloped edges - looks so elegant.
We all liked the first pantsuit best. I’m afraid that the jacket is going to overwhelm her because she’s so small now. Even in a petite. Why I ordered the second choice.
Very bice options! Hope they look as lovely on as in photos!
It’s good you could find petite. The pants may still need hemming, especially if she is not wearing high heels. But the scale of it will fit her better.
Since you are all top of mind as I scroll through emails, have any of you looked at the Frances Valentine dresses? I’ve never bought anything because it generally is a bit dressier than I need, but it seems right for a not young but fun and tasteful woman. Always wishing I had an occasion.!
My dress arrived. I really like it. It will be a good wedding guest dress and I will be able to wear it at one of the events for my daughters wedding. In the Virgin Islands. Probably not my MOB dress but there will be other events I think.
Ignore the shoes, they are the only heel options I own at the moment
Great dress!
