The MOB/MOG Dress Extravaganza!

I thought that many of the dresses in the articles were appropriate for a younger more fit person.

I am a short middle aged woman who is a bit heavier than I’d like to be. Feeling sorry for this middle aged body that I seemed to have sprouted.

I also have a million different tan lines right now so I’d like something with sleeves.

Here are 2 dresses I’ve bought that I’m contemplating

In the green

Or this in the black motif

I look great in both dresses. The second is quite dressy and does not look bridal. The first is a casual cotton and I’m afraid it’s too casual for the first event and too alike to the second to wear both? I think I’m overthinking things.

I want to look really good! That’s the objective. Feeling fat!

I think both outfits look awesome and would be appropriate for both events. I’d bring a wrap for “just in case,” as I hate being cold and leave it in the car if not needed.

I’ve been told that the bride wants us in dresses, not pants. At least that’s what my 87 year old mil has been told so I’m sure that it’s true for me also.

Both those dresses are lovely and would look awesome for wedding guests for most events.

Wonderful dresses! The colors make them look quite different from each other. I think cotton is perfectly fine for a summer event.

I love both those dresses. I’ve been eyeing the sommerset but haven’t done so.

@deb922 those two dresses are great! Get one for the dinner and one for the boat!

Both are terrific. Second is special occasion, so would be my pick. But first and foremost, pick the one you love.

Thanks. I do love both dresses and think that I will feel very good in both for the wedding events.

I had bought another dress, it was an under slip and a dress over it.

This is the dress

It was also very attractive but it was too hard to get on and had straps to be adjusted. It ended up being such a pain to try on. I sent it back. Did not feel comfortable in the end.

The 2 dresses I linked above are incredibly comfortable and easy!

I was hoping to buy a dress this year that I can wear for my daughter’s wedding events which will be also more than one day. It’s on a tropical island. I decided that I can’t sync tropical island in June and September in Michigan with the same dress. Maybe I can but I’m not going to obsess over that fact.

But I hope to wear these dresses again. The green one fits my life better. The other dress… I may have to find a special dinner to wear it to!

That’s a bummer about the Sundance dress! But I hear you loud and clear. I hate clothes that require Houdini skills to put on or take off. I’d sent that dress back, too.

And I’m trying not to think that I am dropping a small fortune (for me) for 2 dresses for a wedding!

I tried to think of what I have in my closet. But I have a couple of very casual knit dresses and my funeral dress. None of which seemed right for this wedding.

I haven’t worn or bought anything dressy since covid. Have not gone to a dressy occasion for 3 years.

I’m sure you can find things to wear both lovely dresses for. It can be hard to find the right dress when you’re searching for it. Since both fit you and you like both, why not have two new dresses? You haven’t bought anything in years–just think of it as deferred purchases. I’m sure these dresses would be useful for your D’s festivities (rehearsal meal, shower, etc) as well.

That black motif is stunning imo!!

Another vote for both.

Another vote for both, especially since you say you look great in both of them. Feeling confident in what you are wearing is important.

I have to ask, though, the black motif one looks awfully low cut to me? Maybe it is just how it appears in the photo or that particular model’s build.

I like both dresses - nice choices.

I think part of the incentive behind “festive semi-formal” is that this year sooo many of the styles, even in formal section of stores, is print.

It is low cut. I would wear a cami underneath. The first review has a picture of a cami and I think it looks ok. I think I’m too old for a bralette but the reviews show the dress that way. Maybe a lace trimmed cami.

The dress was a showstopper on. I also think I can also put a hook and eye and bring up the neckline.

The green dress also has a hook and eye. I would wear a cami underneath that one.

I tried on the dress in the store. But ordered it in the petite.

Another vote for both. It can be so hard to find clothes like that when you’re looking, and you feel gross in both. With wedding festivities, you’ll get to wear both. I suspect you could dress down the green one as well.

One more question.

I have these shoes in the black and gray

They look great with the green dress and will be perfect for a boat. The dress hits me ankle length.

Would these shoes be good with the other dress also?

The dress should hit at similar length.

I pulled out the first dress I got for S2’s wedding and there is actually dark berry in the paisley. The ground fabric doesn’t read as white, so that’s good. I also got a dark berry with lace bodice and while it fits great, it’s a beast to zip. The zipper is too close to the lace. I could probably take out the zipper, and reposition it, but do I want to? The dark berry is more dressy. I still don’t know if there’s a rehearsal dinner and what I’d need to wear.

I’m freaking out a little. Good thing they are far away.
