What is everyone's opinion on this school? I recently did a college visit and info session and it seemed pretty interesting and different from any other school I have visited.

I have a question about it too. If I went there, I would go to Eugene Lang School for Liberal Arts for their Culture and Media major. I'm also interested in French and Spanish and I was wondering if a minor in one of those is even possible at The New School? Can you major in Culture and Media and minor in say French? (I know you can for sure do this at other schools, but The New School is "different".)

Anybody know? And What are your opinions of this school?

I’ve heard great things about this school. I currently attend community college in Manhattan and many of my professors have either gone there or sent their kids there and loved it. I’m not sure about their policies regarding minors. I just applied to Lang as a transfer for Fall 2009 and I want to major in Culture and Media as well.

Bottom line, I think you should apply if you are interested because it has an excellent reputation in New York City, and that’s not always an easy thing!

i have a friend who is also thinking about going there.

what is the financial aid like? she turned in the fafsa, but she hasn’t gotten any information on it.

I hear it’s a pretty liberal, independent college. i think one of the best things about it is that it’s in NYC, so you’re able to get a first-hand view of culture and arts… and the museums are literally 5 min away.

Hey, hope this doesn’t like too much of a ridiculous question…
iv been accepted to eugene lang for fall '09. Im torn between lang and another college. I was just wondering if anyone knew of what the music scene is like at lang? i plan on studying english but i love music, play a load of instruments and have written a lot of songs… Is lang or any of the divisions of the new school good for bands or people looking to get involved in music? i mean outside of the classroom. thanks

Currently there is a ton of upheaval at the New School. Search about it on Inside Higher Education. I’d be nervous about going into such a tumultuous environment.

They’re also extremely ****ty about financial aid and as a result The New School has a reputation for being filled with rich kids with nothing better to do than spend their parents money in Manhattan. That’s the reason my friend transferred out of Parsons, actually.

i’m a culture & media major there now. i really love the program and the professors. if you have any specific questions definitely feel free to pm me.

financial aid is kind of wack, but i’m super broke and super good at standardized tests so i got a pretty sweet deal. no one gets a free ride.

and no, you wouldn’t be able to minor in a language at lang. you can take language classes, but they’re not really rigorous.

Well I cannot speak for all students at Eugene Lang, but my D goes there (dual degree with Parsons) and is on full scholarship. She does not come from a rich family and works to pay her (nearly $1000 a month) rent.

My D loves the school and in fact transferred IN after a year in a different school (not art related).

sorry, when i said “free ride” i meant the full cost of attendance, so like the 50K or whatever it is now (ughhhhhhhhh) which includes housing costs. i have full tuition but pay for the dorms with a combo of federal and private loans.

i’m getting housing off campus next year though which will save costs. thumbs up!!

Hey iv a quick question about the new school…
when you graduate say from eugene lang with a bachelor of arts degree is this an honors degree or is it just an ordinary bachelor of arts degree?
