Good point. I am coming from arguably the most beautiful campus and am close to my girlfriend, so I am not complaining about the location. You however are in an unfortunate place near L.A.

So after talking with my brother about my essay, I probably will leave out “reason for transferring”. There just is nowhere to incorporate my true feelings about transferring. My reasons mainly focus on social issues, rather than academics. Since I am attending the University for mainly academic reasons, my argument to transfer isn’t very strong.

So I didn’t check off one of the “I agree” check boxes at the end. That’s ok right? It didn’t say we were required to check them off. It was one that said, “I agree to let the UC school I’m applying to contact my current school and counselor regarding my application and admissions decision.” But I’m applying from another UC and didn’t feel comfortable with that. That’s not actually going to hurt my chances of getting accepted somewhere is it? Because if it actually might, then I’ll make some calls and get that changed right away. I might be overthinking it though. Thoughts?

You are definitely over thinking it. They put that questions on standardized tests too. I never give permission since I don’t know my counselor well enough. I too will refuse to check the box because it is not UCSC’s business what I do.

Though its extremely close to the deadline, I was just wondering if anyone applied as different majors to different UCs? If so, how should I complete prompt 1 “what is your intended major”? I am thinking I should be general because my majors do interconnect. Any ideas?

I picked EE at UCLA and Comp. E at UCSD, UCSB and UCD and I just went pretty general since the two fields are closely related. Is there a reason you picked different majors? In my case UCLA offers Comp. E as an optional focus for EE majors, so even though the major is different my objective is still basically the same.

well journalism is my career goal but communications/media studies are very impacted on many uc campuses. so i opted for majors that i took interest in which relate to communications in some form.

hey i wanted to know because i want to transfer from uc to uc. i currently have below the 90 unit requirement, but after this fall quarter i would have 90 units. am i still able to apply as a transfer student right now and update them once i get my fall grades? >< also i’m currently a sophomore at ucr.

I am a bit confused as to what major to apply at ucla.

For ucla, political science admit rates are a lot better than global studies rates. but i have more of my pre reqs done for global studies. which do i choose? they are both subjects that interest me, but I want the best possible chance of getting in.

gave the transfer application a final go around a couple of days ago. at first, i wasn’t really seriously considering making the move; Riverside although painfully boring at times has been somewhat good to me. that being said, running the odds in your head makes you somewhat curious. the suspense, for whatever reason, has admittedly been keeping me up at night, and that statfinder website thing isn’t helping either. i guess this feeling is staying for the long haul.

my stats aren’t mindblowing. i’ll have a gpa approaching 3.46 by the january update. definetly not close to any of our CC buddies, and I’m sure significantly lower than some of the guys that have posted here. i do have a nice 28 credit cushion thanks to ap testing to keep in the bank if i decide to hot air balloon or something. a majority of my general education requirements to the exception of foreign language should also be done by next quarter; but i’m a native speaker, so the odds of testing out of that are pretty high. set my sights on ucsd and ucsb, which i got accepted into freshman year; ucla i understand is a distinct possibility so there’s that as well. majoring in english, if anyone else is doing that.

didn’t mention reasons for transferring in the statements; couldn’t really find a legitimate reason why. focused really on my personal experiences and motivation as a first generation student; i’m sure it’s nothing they haven’t heard before, but its certainly been a significant factor on my end. i’m not expecting much, but hopefully that information sort of puts your prospects in perspective.

With a 3.46, I’d say you have a good shot at SB and SD.

But for me…man, I just failed my physics final so hard. Pretty sure that means I’ll get a C- in the class, which will take my cumulative GPA below UCLA’s average for computer science majors. Which means, I basically just divided my chance of getting in by 4. EFF. ARGHHHH.

C-?? You had a 3.9 something going into this process… how’d that happen? Sorry buddy. I’m sure you are still in the running though. No biggie :)

Average accepted Computer Science major at UCLA has a 3.8 man Pretty sure this will bring me down to like a 3.7, with like a 3.6 major GPA. I’m pretty much considering myself out of the running. Only time will tell though I guess. Disappointing! But thank God I have my own thread to come into and whine about it, haha.

It’s funny. I did all that I could possibly do and more, and I am not very confident about this whole process. Too bad we need to be in limbo for three more months.

How are you guys feeling about your chances? Hey, why not chance yourself with a % for each campus?

Come back in a couple weeks, then we can chance ourselves. Fall grades are pretty important, and I have had the most difficult finals in the history of mankind.

In fact, I would bet that my finals this quarter have been just as difficult as they would have been at Berkeley. I want to go to Berkeley just so I can prove it. Then I’ll post a thread saying “If you come to UCR engineering thinking you’re going to have it easy, you’re ■■■■■■■■.”

Here’s a question someone may know the answer to:

Will the UC schools factor in the minus’s and pluses in the grades? At UCR, an A- is a 3.7, for example. Will the schools I’m applying to also calculate it as a 3.7?

Hello all, I’m a first year and I applied to UCLA and I’m really anxious and not sure what my chances are, since my case isn’t the norm.
I’ll have enough units by spring, but will the prerequisites be a problem? I’m a bio major right now at UCI and I also applied as bio. On the UCLA website on the list for prereq’s it listed things like Organic Chem, which I have not taken. But for bio majors at both UCI and UCLA, you take Ochem in your second year, so would they look down upon me not having taken it or will they understand?

My GPA is strong, being that the only quarter they will see is fall…I believe I got a 4.0 (or maybe a 3.9). But will it hurt me that I’m only applying with one quarter’s worth of grades?
