Inert101, I think the key to getting the country on the right track is for the people to start taking responsibility. I have noticed that while our people love apportioning blame on others and lambasting the government for corruption, ineptitude and what not, they themselves are often severely lacking when it comes to helping the country or the people who live in it.

Take education for example. How many of us see to it that the children of our domestic staff attend a decent school, that they become something in life? How many of us support initiatives like Shazad Roy’s Zindagi Trust or the Care Foundation? In the United States, even a person from the most disadvantageous background can attend a top university, become a physician or a lawyer and lead a life that his/her parents never did. Can we say the same about Pakistan? Can the daughter of a kam wali ever become a doctor? I don’t think so. There is little upward social mobility. The grandson of a khansama or a driver will also most probably become a khansama or a driver; he will be lucky to complete fifth grade in school, let alone attend what passes off as a university in Pakistan. That is really sad. But we can help change that!

What we can do is to come back to the land of Pure after getting education (ofcourse provided we get admission.!!..) and serve it rather than the land of goras…When we enter our practical lives, making money should not be our aim rather the aim should be to become a gud citizen and a gud human!!!
