General Comments/Congratulations/etc: congratulations to everyone who got and to those who did not chin up! it's ok, there's other places that are open so don't despair. i love barnard but i don't if i'll be going...but until may 1st...go Barnard :D

for those of you who were accepted officially by mail... did your password work on that website thing? mine does and invites me to spring events and whatnot but im still waiting for the letter.

My d just called from Barnard. She was at the Mac and there was a table set up so she could write a letter to an accpeted student from her school (or area, as there were none from her school....sad). She did write one and said there are about 6 or 7 total accepted from GA. And she wrote a letter to a student who currently attends a school in the Greater Atlanta area (I don't want to post the school name here. PM me if you want that info).

I got in by letter!! I already posted my stats when i was able to log in on the admitted students website. i know somebody earlier asked people who were accepted if they could post if a person accepted could log on before the letter, and the answer is yes, i could

i got my letter today too! the website's not a hoax! soooo excited! I don't think it was sent FedEx though. Mine was in a USPS Priority Mail envelope.

My password worked last night, but I wanted to wait until the letter came because it seemed to good to be true. But it just came and I'm ecstatic!

Decision: ACCEPTED!!!

[/ul]Other Factors: Honestly, I can't imagine how I was accepted. I got my rejection letter from Skidmore the other day, for goodness' sake. I'm an orphan asking for pretty much full tuition in fin aid, and I was pretty certain that would be hard to ignore.

General Comments/Congratulations/etc: I cannot believe this! I've only been to NYC once in my whole life, on an MUN trip last spring, but I think it was love at first site. I cannot wait to meet you ladies! Hooray!!

WAHOO for all of you strong, beautiful Barnard women!

Cattv, I am very excited for you and your dancer-daughter. I know exactly how you must be feeling! Be forwarned, though, that Barnard is a place where dancers can go and suddenly transform before your very eyes into young women determined to make their way in the here-to-fore unexplored (by her anyway!) field of neuroscience!

Seriously, though: My d still maintains her dance training AND is in love with her major AND just got a very competitive (nationally) scholarship for a summer lab internship at Columbia (the medical center).

Thanks Churchmusicmom!
She has already decided that her path lies elsewhere, but loves the fact that she can still enjoy dance at such a high level at Barnard. (Loved seeing shots of Serenade and Antique Epigraphs on the dance department page, btw) I think she has about twelve different majors other than dance in mind so far! Congrats to your d on her internship -- that's fabulous!

CATTV: so your d has decided to attend Barnard? Fabulous!!!!

LOL, my d had decided from the start not to major in dance as well. In fact, she was in a professional show the summer before her first year at Barnard and the entire cast, many of whom are Broadway veterans, literally told her that she had "better not... " go to Barnard and major in dance! Not that the dance department isn't incredible; just that she could continue her training in that area yet still pursue the many academic opportunities that abound there as well.

She never, ever thought she would fall in love with a scientific field of endeavor, though. If anything, a literature-related field is what she envisioned.

Stats:[ul]

[] Essays: hopefully good. I'm very passionate. For my main essay I wrote about the complexities of language. I talked about my admiration for Anna Quindlen in how I found out about the school. For my favorite character I chose the Fox from le Petit Prince. For my daily habit I wrote about editing Wikipedia (wow, I've just outed myself as a huge dork, huh?). For the government issue, I chose 527 ads.
[] Teacher Recs: I waived my right to read, but I think they were great because I picked teachers from two of my favorite classes.
[] Counselor Rec: very good
[] Hook (if any): my sparkling personality ;) National merit scholar.

I'm so excitied! It's expensive but I'd love to go there.

Congrats, Kelseyg! I hope you do get to attend Barnard! It is an expense that my husband and I think is well worth it in light of our d's experiences there to date!
